Recently a European middleweight title bout dated 1924-04-28 has been added in BoxRec. It was fought between then reigning European light-heavyweight champion Louis Clément and reigning European lightweight champion Fred Bretonnel with the light-heavyweight champion defeating the lightweight champion after 20 rounds. I hope that I am not the only one who doesn't believe this. Of course, a light-heavyweight and a lightweight didn't fight each other for a title in 1924. Of course, the IBU wouldn't have sactioned such a fight for a European title.
I am quite sure that Louis Clément didn't fight lightweight Georges Papin in 1924 either.

Re: European middleweight title bout 1924-04-28
The 1924-4-28 bout was a fight between Raymond Bonnel and Louis Clement. It was already in the datebase with the wrong date, it has been corrected now. I agree that the Clement vs. Papin is suspicious too, but have not found the correct details yet.
Re: European middleweight title bout 1924-04-28
Regarding the alleged Papin vs Clément fight in 1924. If it can't be verified, wouldn't the best thing be to remove the incorrect entry? It is difficult to find out anything about this particular fight which neither took place between these boxers nor on this particular date. It causes more harm as it stands now suggesting that it did happen.

Agreed. Until the correct details are found, it's best to keep it out.

I usually try to put unverified bouts in the bio section so that other researchers can follow up
If bout definitely didn't happen, I just delete
