Re: The Best Boxer with a Reputation as Vulnerable?
Duke McKenzie was a superb boxer and he was sometimes fragile, I think when he struggled with weight.
(Not the best boxer but a terrific hitter and exciting boxer - Paul Ryan was KO or be KO'd - I remember reading an interview and he'd chinned a few who'd said he should pack the boxing in and be a milkman - because he only did a round.)

i was told that micky duff had a bet with someone (maybe jarvis astaire ) that he could turn duke in to a world champ hence why he put so much effort into dukes early career.palooka wrote:Duke McKenzie was a superb boxer and he was sometimes fragile, I think when he struggled with weight.

I have just imagined that scene in Trading Places where 2 old blokes have a bet about turning Eddie Murphy into a success !! ......stevedoc wrote:i was told that micky duff had a bet with someone (maybe jarvis astaire ) that he could turn duke in to a world champ hence why he put so much effort into dukes early career.palooka wrote:Duke McKenzie was a superb boxer and he was sometimes fragile, I think when he struggled with weight.

Hearns took a hell of a beating from Hagler. It was only after that fight he started to look vulnerable.
I think the guy I'd put forward would be Tiger Flowers. One of the greatest ever MWs...but with a sizeable number of early clean KOs against him. Some of them are from all-time great punchers, but even so.
