Cecilia Braekhus

Post by 1LadyBrækhus »

My last topic on Cecilia Braekhus disappeared, so I had to make a new one!

Apparently, she and Sauerland has reached a new contract agreement, that will last to February 2015. It will be for 3 or 4 more fights during that period. Whereas the first one is right around the corner.
June 7th she will fight a rematch against Jessica Balogun, who she previously won 99-92, 97-93x2, back in 2012. I can only come to the conclusion that this was the best opponent they could get on such short notice.
The new deal will make Braekhus the best paid female combat athlete in the world, earning her a minimum purse of 1.5m usd during a 1 year contract (+sponsors, +bonuses, etc)
Also in the contract, she implemented a demand of being televised on German TV, which will expose her to millions of viewers, in every fight. This may have contributed to the choosing of German Balogun as the first fight televised in Germany.

Official statement: http://www.sauerlandpromotion.com/news/ ... n-germany/

1.5mill per fight is great for anyone. I still don't think most ppl care about womens boxing but if she can find a niche market like it seems she has good for her.

1.5 million per fight or for the contract? I think it said the contract, for 4 fights, or $375,000 per fight, + sponsors and bonuses.
wondering who pays all her training expenses, like running training camps, trainers, sparring,
travel, all of it. it's probably not $375+ pf net, that's probably gross. still she makes more than
99% of the guys. I heard Norway personal income taxes are 40% on everything above around $70k,
with the lowest bracket starting around $7k, + capital gains, + 7.8% social security, + VAT on
everything you buy, and she may pay taxes in different countries. whatever her net is after expenses,
her after tax could be less than half the net. amazing how these big numbers get whittled down to not much
very quickly. she has class, competes hard, and is good for the sport, but I only hope she gets
out of it with her looks and her senses in tact, something in the bank, and maybe has a family and
good life after boxing. there is still a big part of me that doesn't like seeing women get hit, even in
sports, and the pool of competitive opponents in women's combat sports is very shallow. braekhus
is the big fish in a small pond.
1LadyBrækhus wrote: The new deal will make Braekhus the best paid female combat athlete in the world
supposedly Rhonda rousey only gets $75k to show up and another $75k to win per fight,
for a max $150k + ppv%, for 2 fights a year, and who knows what her other sponsor
and merchandizing would be, and rousey IS women's MMA. no other woman would even make
a fraction of that. I would guess ufc probably owns everything. ufc doesn't pay shit, and
legacy even less, so it's a mystery why holly holm wouldn't take $100k to fight braekhus.
maybe she just thinks she can't win and the $100k loss would be worse for her career than
the what she has going now?

Jesus Christ... 1.5M would be nearly twice as much as champions like Kovalev made. If that would be true, i'll visit my doc, so he transgenders me, cuts of my fat, and i'll be female middleweight champion in the world in 2016.

We don't know what Ronda Rousey’s PPV cut is but we do know (due to his lawsuit with Bellator) the terms that the UFC offered Eddie Alvarez. I would assume that Rousey’s deal is at least as generous as that and it's possible that she has a more lucrative deal.

The PPV cut Alvarez was offered was…

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1478 ... portuities
… According to the court documents, the UFC is prepared to pay Alvarez $1 for every buy the UFC receives for each PPV event in which Alvarez appears. That number goes up to $2 per buy when total buys reach 400,000-600,000, and $2.50 when it exceeds 600,000…
UFC 168 last December, where Rousey fought Tate, ended up (according to reliable sources like Dave Meltzer) topping a million buys.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1917 ... on-history

If we take a total of one million buys and assume that Rousey's PPV points are structured in the same way as those offered to Alvarez, her cut of a one millon buy show would be 1.65 millon dollars.

That would be in addition to the other monies we know she earned for UFC 168 - her show money ($50,000), her win money (another $50,000), a bonus for Submission of The Night ($75,000) and a bonus for Fight of the Night (another $75,000).

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1906 ... on-payroll

So, Rousey would have made 1.9 million dollars just for her fight at UFC 168. Once again, it’s possible her PPV deal is better than the one offered to Alvarez. So, she could have made more than that.

There are no interesting fights for her, unless she wants to move up and give away a lot of size against Hammer.

or unless holly holm made a return to boxing. I never mention this stuff but boxrec gives this
one star, despite breakhus having 3 or the 4 major titles, being #1 in the world in her
class and also pound for pound, and her opponent is supposedly #8 in the world.
I was going to try to check the math behind that but was too lazy.

Saw her last night. She is a very good fighter. Technically absolutely no difference to a guy. Female boxing has come a long way. I hear the reason that she gets paid so well is the home audience in Norway. She got about 10 mins of TV time here last night at about 1:30am

Here is the fight. I hope some of you skeptics take a look, I think you'll be truly surprised ;)

Regarding the bouts number of stars its because of Baloguns inactivity and choosing of opponents. She is widely regarded among the top welterweight.

We are 1 week away from the unification bout between Cecilia Braekhus (WBA,WBC,WBO) and Ivana Habazin (IBF).

Any prediction for this fight? :box:

Not a bad fighter but I see too many mistakes being made already, she pulls straight back when she steps back from engaging and her head is straight up; she's needs to exist out at an angle with her chin tucked. She doesn't get her hands back into position to protect her chin after she fires her shots and it appears that she doesn't know how to fight on the inside as she appeared to not do much at all when up close to her opponent.

She's not all bad but those are a few things that I'd correct if I were her Trainer, she is quite good looking from the pics I've seen too.

You seem to have watched some of her fights. I agree with you in most of it, but I think you are comparing her skills with the top guys in boxing. I have yet to see any female on her skill level, but maybe you know of any? She was the first girl the legendary trainer Ulli Wegner accepted to train, and now she is being trained by Otto Ramin. Both of them have trained some top boxers in their times.
ReggieDiggs wrote:Yea, that only a few people will give a damn. Good luck to both though.
I should maybe tell you that her fights have an average view rating of around 500.000. In a country of barely 6 million I would say those are good numbers. She also attracts a large number of viewers in Sweden and Denmark who have access to the same channels.

No, I never compared her skills to anyone, I merely pointed out her flaws that could get her KO'd against an opponent who sees the same thing that I see. Yes, I have seen her fight a couple of times and I think she does have a vast amount of wrinkles in her game, however I can still see that there are a few tools that need sharpening.

I will continue to root for her to win, she seems like she could be a good representative for the sport and take up the mantle where Laila Ali left off.

braek is 1000x better than anyone habazin has fought.
if you look at habazin's record, her last opponent (a slow unskilled one)
was the only opponent who didn't have a bad or non-existant record, and it was
a major title fight, lol. that is what is so scary about the women's game.
braek is technically much better and i always have confidence in the technically
better boxer in the exchanges. braek will just circle and use angles and move her head,
not stand there like a heavy bag and let this girl charge in through the front door like habazin
does with her lesser opponents. habazin normally has both hands low. when she does
momentarily bring her hands up while trying to walk her opponent down, it is very deliberate
and cecilia could easily jab or even feint like she is going to exchange and then steal body
shots and move off to the side.

the prediction depends on how aggressive habazin gets. if habazin is aggressive she will
get caught on the inside with her hands down, but she will probably be much more careful
against braekhus so i would guess UD cecilia.

I don't know anything about Habazin, but oddsmakers peg her as an 80-1 underdog to Braekhaus.
So just a glorified sparring session expected for the lady champ.
In comparison, GGG is listed as only a 66-1 choice over MA Rubio in October. Apparently bookmakers are more impressed with the girl than they are with the middleweight titleholder.

Exactly. The skill level of woman's boxing is hilarious. And dont get me wrong there are some badass ladies but they are few & far between. Throw Robert Garcia a homeless lady & he'd get her a bs title shot in 18 months.

the initial odds are usually what the odds makers feel are safe for them but
also will still attract enough bets to get the betting started. after the opening
bets, it is the bettors who set the odds, not the odds makers. they are essentially
betting against each other, balancing each other out, with the vig forming the
profit to the house. the line moves the way the price of a stock moves.
when you see crazy odds like that, it is because one side has a lot more bettors/fans,
and is often a barometer of one fighter's relative popularity over another, not an
assessment by the odds-makers of the probable outcome. i would put $20 on habazin
if i got 80-1. habazin won't beat braek but any time a fight goes the distance (and this
probably will) there is a chance on bad judging, and that chance here is MUCH better than
80-1. habazin hasn't been tested but she could turn out to be around anne sophie mathis
level.

torben keller just got dropped 3 times in the 1st 10 2nds of his fight on this card.
1st time he's been down as a pro.
sauerland had him 10-0 matched against arman torosyan 12-0.
rare to see promoters pitt good up and coming fighters against each other
but sauerland does it pretty often. they just make the best fights they can.

It's possible they're paying more attention to her looks than her actual skills, punchoutsb.

Braekhus and Fujioka are the clear #1 and #2 pound-for-pound fighters in female boxing right now. Braekhus is better known though watching both show they are head and shoulders above the competition
