Criteria for Regaining a Lisence

Post by thepocketrocket »

OK...I'm a tad confused. I am sure that they were the brothers who did an armed robbery a few years back. Can you just walk back into boxing and take over your old gym again, and in doing so, regain your BBBoC lise

Genuine question regarding what you have to do to lose your lisence. You would think 1.2 million quid robberies would affect their chances!!

Happy they are back by the way...the Peacock does a great job in the community.

Many thanks

Normally if you done your jail time and are not on tag you are in a decent position to reapply for a license.
The Bowers are good guys and would be a proper loss to the game if the board were to be petty.

Thats' fair enough. And it wasn't a violent offence so that would have gone in their favour

Feck me, whatever happened to paying your debt to society. They did the crime, they did the time, no let them get on with their lives. Totally entitled to a licence morally.

the bowers lads are welcome. the real crime is surely the rent down at the peacock going bananas - however youngsters can still train down their for nothing so I'm told - whilst it costs kids to join the gym at west ham ABC down at the black lion. am I right?

Don't think they charge a lot at all really.only 20 odd notes to join and fiver a sesh for adults.great gym,I'd never go anywhere else.martin and tony command a hell of a lot of respect in these parts.just for the amount of work they do for the community.martin is more involved in the training of fighters.when I seconded Martin in ovills win over tony and also when Martin cornered me at the Kev Mitchell katsidis at whu the cool calm manor in which he deals with things in the changing room and corners is literally second to none.

The film Snatch was loosely based on them, they were looking after Johnny Warlden when he beat Lenny McClean a couple of times, apparently the last time they had to lock themselves in the dressing room afterwards

Surely you'd agree the title of this thread may be a very near the mark for anyone who knows the Bowers.. Pocketrocket
A simple google search would have confirmed they are one and the same and the fact that the gym is still theirs answers the question you posed in the OP.
Which would lead people to think that your sullying the name for the sake of it raking up peoples pasts which is not really cricket is it mate.
It's not really a shocker is it east London or any tough manor up and down the country with social issue's will have links to boxing and villainy and what better place to pass on the lessons learnt from mistakes you've made to prevent others following suit.
Everybody needs a second chance and somewhere to do that .

With all due respect, I knew full well they were the same people, unless there are a different pair of Bowers brothers running the Peacock. So no research necessary

The question was regarding the re-licensing and the boards views on what for you to have to do for them to say , 'erm, no thanks'. It was a general question. Remember, this was a 1.2 million pound job. Huge news outside the boxing world. I was surprised they got it back no fuss at all.

The rest of your post I agree with, and am glad they are back

I would never have believed for a minute that the Board would re-issue a licence. Was a weapon involved? (i have read the thread title, but i mean is this verified?). If so I'm amazed.
However - as long as noone was badly hurt then I'd be inclined to agree with the above ^^^

Terry Dunstan and Big Larry weren't saints, but got their licences back. As has been said, there's such a thing as a second chance.

There are examples of boxers / seconds / trainers etc. being convicted of a crime and getting their BBBofC licence back.

There are examples of boxers / seconds / trainers etc. being convicted of a crime and notgetting their BBBofC licence back.

(I think) that the question is, is there a list of crimes that warrant a licence being revoked over another where it is re-issued ?

Surely there must be some criteria ?

FFS there's a lot more horrible pudenda in the world like nonces, slimy little rats that rob old people, house burglars etc, it's a few quid that got stole, not the end of the world IMO, there's a lot worse going on.

I have also served a lengthy jail sentence for similar crimes
I have long served my time and payed my debt, and moved on with my life to try and better myself for my family and I think that my past has no bearing on me being a trainer now, am I proud of my past ? No not really and wouldn't like my kids to know about it when they grow up or think bad of me, there proud when they see there dad on TV

I don't personally know the brothers but am lead to believe they do a great job in the community with the gym and think there past has nothing to do with the work they do now either, everybody is entitled to make mistakes, have a past and move on with there life.

Has far has I'm aware The board will issue you a boxing license has long has your not on any current sentence, ie. probation, license from jail, suspended sentence, community order etc or in exceptional circumstances ( a crime so serious they don't see fit to grant a license, I.e sex offenders and rightly so IMO, murderers, terrorists etc)

Great response from Boxing Cutsman, a lot of good points made there, really mature attitude. I totally agree that the Bowers have been punished for the crime they were caught for, and correctly should have got their licence back.

I don't think they'll be getting Visa's for visiting Disney or Universal Studios any time soon. It's holidays in Brighton for these lads I'm afraid.
