What fight got you addicted?

Davila vs Duarte got me hooked. Prior to that I was watching Hulk Hogan and all that bullshit. When I finally accepted that was fake, I needed to get my high in some other way. I was in Junior High and I remember tuning into the Davila/Duarte which was being televised on regular television. I cant believe its been that long. Ive been a hard core addict since

In the run up to Hagler-Hearns me and my best friend began to read everything we could about the two fighters. Then a week before the fight we went to his dad's work social club and an old guy was showing reels of old films (mostly highlights). We watched an assortment of fights from Willard-Johnson to Robinson-Graziano. Then he finished the night with Duran-Leonard. We'd never seen anything like it. To this day that fight fascinates me. I still consider Duran's win to be one of the greatest sporting achievements of the last 40 years.

This one was from '87 me thinks and was a rematch 10 years after their first fight. Duarte had been a pissartist (heavy drinker) in that 10 years and it was amazing he was fighting at this level. That was the theme for this fight

Had taken an interest in the spam before it, but Jose Luis Ramirez - Edwin Rosario II sealed it for me

Ali vs Spinks 2...

This fight got me into boxing but the one that really 'hooked' me was Chacon vs Limon 4... which I got a tape of when I was about 13 and I've been a lost cause ever since... (Gomez vs Pintor was on the same tape too!...

While I was already a boxing fan, I became absolutely addicted after watching Jerry Quarry school Ron Lyle. Quarry put on a beautiful counterpunching display, more like what you would see in a MW fight. He even hurt the iron chinned Lyle in one of the later rounds with a counter left hook.

Holmes vs. Ali. I was five years old and the only thing I knew about boxing was that Muhammad Ali was the greatest fighter in the world. Obviously, I thought Holmes was Muhammad in that fight. After all, he was the greatest.
You can imagine my disapointment when the older boys in my street finally convinced me it was the other way around.
I tried to convince my pals that Ali would win the rematch

Back in the 1980s you couldn't get the latest results from around the world on the internet and there was no pay per view, cable, etc... A lot of us in UK had to wait for sportsnight to show highlights of fights, or if a UK fight ended early then we'd see fights from US.

Watching the US shows really was something. It was amazing to watch great pictures in colour. The Holmes figth with Ali and Cooney were quite big in my neighbourhood. I didn't know who Ali was at the time. I thought he was just the big mouthed guy who advertised quarter pounders on TV.

It's been so long I truthfully can't remember...I loved baseball, boxing and football growing up and they all seem to blend in my mind. However, I do remember the fight that hooked my son - one of the all-time greats, Gatti v. Ward I

I'm afraid being of the younger generation, I got only to see the downfall of 'Iron' Mike and the fight that got me hooked was Holyfield v Tyson I. A shame really because of course I've now got as many of Tyson's old fights as I can, but watching Holyfield on that occasion got me hooked!

The fight that made me an instant fan was Esteban (Vita) De Jesus vs. Roberto (Mano de piedra) Duran because my father and some friends were watching the fight and at that time Duran was the best Hispanic boxer out there but my family was rooting for De Jesus since we were in Puerto Rico and I clearly remember my father jumping up and down when De Jesus got the decision, and that made me so happy that I became a boxing fan forever. There is no better sport than boxing.

My dad had a bet on Clay to beat Liston.

I remember him & my ma arguing over some fuckin fight.

He won the equivelant of 2 months wages.

Since then I got hooked on Clay/Ali.

When we got a TV I watched every one of Ali's fights. Saw my countryman lose his title in 1972 to Roberto Duran and became totally hooked on boxing outside Ali & the HW'ys.

In 1977 my martial arts master died and I joined my local boxing gym.

Been there since.

How do i make you feel old Seamus. I watched that fight live too, its just I remember sitting round a radio set as a kid listening to the Liston & Cooper fights.

Ali Frazier 1 was the month before my 10th birthday.

Yes I'd be about 3 when Clay beat Liston, but some things lay deep in your memory and that is one. Probably not for the fight itself but the atmosphere in my house at the time as my young brother was born two weeks later.

For me it was being picked from ringside to hold Tom Sharkey's water bottle for him while he passed through the ropes to tackle big Jim Jeffords at Detroit the winter of 1900. I was just a wee kid and Sharkey looked as wide as a barn door across the shoulders. That big moose Jeffords crumpled like paper in the second as I recall.
