Jason Gavern is ridiculous!!

Post by GilFilmore »

I've noticed on Facebook for the past year, heavyweight journeyman Jason Gavern has been moaning and groaning about not getting fights.

He'll frequently air out his grievances about being offered too little money for certain fights. He's turned down fights against Andy Ruiz ($15,000), Kubrat Pulev ($25,000) and most recently Chazz Witherspoon ($5,000).

He's citing the excuse of beating a completely shot and belligerent James Toney as to why he shouldn't accept these low offers.

What the hell does this guy expect???

It's ridiculous. Let him sit on the sidelines. Nobody is paying to see Jason Gavern. He should take what he can get.

I haven't seen him complain as much as I have offer up his services for sparring. Though I have too many friends to keep close tabs on any of them.

Beating a shot to pieces out of shape Toney over 3 rounds doesnt IMO qualify someone for a massive payday. Id imagine 15k for Ruiz and 25k for Pulev are very good paydays for a guy like Gavern. If both fights were in a calander year and throwing in the 5k fight against Chazz Witherspooon thats 45k not a bad years work! Assuming those numbers are correct!

Those numbers sound like sh*t to me. The dude's been paid to lose 16 times, I think he would know what he's worth. He even fought 7 times in 2013, so it's not like he turned down every offer to come his way.

This. How many cats are fighting 7 times these days. He must be getting paid nice those 7 times to bitch about these other 3 fights. If he ain't fighting I see a problem, although ultimately its his own problem so who gives a sh!t either way.

Gavern is an entertaining fellow, but $25K for Pulev was more than fair for a guy like him.

As someone else said no one is taking their hard earned money to watch Gavern fight. He should accept the Ruiz and Pulev offers. He has no chance of winning, so take the money and run.

Youre probably a promoters best friend but you're most likely selling yourself short in a hurt business. Obviously your decision though.

Jason Gavern is a $10K fighter, and if he loses a couple more he will move nearer a $5K fighter.

$5,000 after expenses and tax is jack.

He should have taken the Pulev fight though. If he put in a good shift, he could get more work both as an opponent and a sparring partner in Germany.

That's where the money is for heavyweights. Michael Sprott (who beat Gavern) has made some very decent money out there I believe.

...a 37-year old dude (basically a nobody) who has been losing every second fight and who was offered to fight one of the top 5 guys refuses because the money is not right? I guess he missed an opportunity of HIS lifetime...

Jason Gavern needs to realize the only person interested in Jason Gavern is Jason Gavern.

Jason Gavern should have his purse withheld. He's a quitter and a joke.

I know at least five other guys that would have took that 32.5 and gave 1000% more than gavern did.

Oh man, give Gavern a break. Seriously.
The guy did everything that was expected of him & then some.
He went into the ring with the #1 contender in the world on six days notice & took Wilder further than anyone else had thus far. So, what's the problem? He could have gone just found a nice comfy soft spot to lay down on in the first round, but he gave an honest effort for four full rounds, took some hard shots from Wilder before running out of gas & retiring between rounds.
As far as I'm concerned, Gavern earned every penny of his purse.
He put forth an honest enough effort without taking an unnecessary beating so that as soon as the paperwork is signed for Wilder's title shot vs Stiverne, they can then quickly hire a healthy Gavern on for 6 - 8 weeks. So, everyone's happy.

Well said. I think quite a few are pissed off because they maybe lost money betting on a first round KO? :OhYes:

Ok, I was a little sauced when I wrote that. But Gavern did quit, not like I haven't seen "quit" before.

And that's precisely why they went with Gavern...
