I had it 114-114. Butler certainly won the first 4 on my card, but after that point I thought it was largely Hall's fight. Butler still looked fast and flashy at times, but he was falling short with his punches an awful lot (like Devon Alexander often does) and I preferred Hall's heavier shots, which looked especially bothering to Butler when he was against the ropes. Can't argue with the close decision for Butler though, as he dominated the early stages and boxed well enough to arguably win enough of the later rounds to keep him ahead.

Just posted this on fightscorecollectors thread but thought i'd add to this topic as well

I haven't seen it on telly yet (watching it tonight) but from where me and the missus were sat it was very close.

Butler blatantly got off to the better start and for me that's what won him the fight. That been said from ringside it looked like Stuey really came back into it from maybe 5-6 onwards and it was real touch and go at the end. I am going to watch it later again and take my emotion out of it to give an honest viewpoint.

I would have said draw but then I really need to see it again to be honest.

I hope it was a good fight for you guys at home it certainly seemed a good one for the people there live. I'm just glad both lads were ok and healthy after, also, I haven't seen the interview, but I was about 3 people back from the camera crew and it looked like there was mutual respect from both at the end which I was glad about

I must say, despite a few silly comments made my way (which I gave back admittedly), Butlers fans were pretty cool after the fight and I didn't see an ounce of trouble all night and even they were saying it was close.

Gutted about the result but hey ho, Stuey and Butler can both say they have been/ are a world champion and for that they should be both very very proud.

Agree that the MC is awful but then everything to do with allegedly is old skool crap. Bunce, Lillies being buffoons who have no polish at all. It is painful to watch. Even at big events they bring in old fashioned, past it Rosenthal

Not committing myself yet but I believe he has a few years in him still and he is still learning.

A lot of shots did land on the guard. If you read through the earlier part of this thread you'll see my thoughts during the fight. What I will say is Hall landed a hell of a lot on Butler's guard too.

Mate, Hall is not world class, and he never will be. Good boxer, seems a lovely lad as-well, but sooner or later you are going to have to come back to reality.

Liking McDonnell has nothing to do with it. It's hardly Halls fault that Jamie was stripped.

Look at the WBC list floating around on here, lots of 'world rated' fighters on there - not so many world class. There is a big difference.

There is a great difference in how different parts of the country say things and express themselves in the 60s when I was growing up world rated, world class, world, ranked were just different ways of saying the same thing. Even north of the river they say things differently from where I come from.

They were good wins for Stuey though no doubt. But that doesn't mean he was in with world class oppo.

Steve Molitor managed about 5 or 6 defences of the IBF title without beating a single world class fighter as far as I can recall.

The sanctioning bodies and all the intercontinental titles weren't really around back then, so calling someone world rated usually meant that they were considered to be one of the top fighters in the division, usually seen as top 10. The same still exists now, but looking at the rankings from the sanctioning bodies doesn't tell the whole story, better off looking at the ring or any other independent rankings, none of those that I've seen contain Hall, Butler, Malinga or Perales in their top 10.

It's to stop legal action against the forum, people have a habit of saying libelous things on here and Fwank has a habit of suing people.

Opinions are far better than who can pay the biggest sanctioning fee, wins some meaningless belt to propel them up the rankings or who pays the biggest bung to the sanctioning body. Most of those rankings are set by a group of people anyway, to prevent bias coming into them and to get a genuine representation of the division, they're far more reliable than anything that comes from the governing bodies, the only thing their rankings have any use for is to determine who's mandatory, not who the best fighters are.
