I could see him facing Rubio in December as a ticking over bout. It's not the most inspiring match up, but Rubio is a top 10 middleweight and will be tough and game.

If all goes to plan I think you're looking at either Canelo or Floyd rematch in May. I think Floyd is more likely as he will be in desperate for some form of meaningful fight by that stage - going up to 160 and winning the legit title will provide that. Canelo has more options at 154, plus I think he could well lose again between now and next May (i.e. in his next fight).

I think they mean that Rubio will likely be able to stand up on his own without the use of crutches. Which will be more than that version of Sergio managed.

Marco Antionio Rubio is certainly in the same bracket as Rocky Juarez and Jesus Soto Karass as a fighter who is decent but some way short of world championship class but continually gets shots and continually lose when they get it, but somehow get the opportunity again.

He gets the opportunities because he keeps putting together long winning streaks after he loses. It's one thing to be gifted those chances without doing much, but he keeps fighting his way back to the lower part of the top 10/12 and makes himself a respectable opponent.

He has fallen short each time he's fought a world class opponent and he probably would again if he faces Cotto, but I think Cotto's win over Martinez massively flatters him and I believe Rubio is at his peak now and could give him some tough moments.

Marco Antonio Rubio is tough, and gritty and a legitimately big puncher, but he doesn't have the greatest technique.

Cotto's greater skill vs Rubio's size, skill and power.

Could be a bit of a dangerous bout for Cotto. Rubio has KO power, and pretty good stamina. He'll still be pressing late in the fight. I wouldn't be shocked if this played out something like Cotto vs Marg 1, but I think Cotto will probably win a decision in this one more likely.

Rubio isn't as skilled as Margarito was.

Oh yeah, he aint bad by any stretch and done remarkably well to forge such a good career after the Jantuah fight. Although his winning streaks are never really against opponents who should earn him mandatory or interim status, which is what he usually gets - don't know if he has been a voluntary for anybody.

At 33 and with a 60 fight career behind him, he could also become shot over night.

Rubio is legit top 10, solid and has been at middle long enough. Cotto fought a man with no legs and it flattered him like nothing on earth. Easy to look fantastic against an immobile target who didn't even have the legs to generate power back at him.

Cotto could win it on points, but I'd put money on him going through hell (and some nice judging) to get there.
