Hearn sending fighters abroad unprepared

Post by 1 nut »

A common trend is happening . Proska ,purdy ,bellew , rose all completely out of their depth !
Yes he is great at marketing fights , but if Frankie can do it on home soil ! Even Barry mc for frampton and throw Dennis Hobson in it for Jamie McDonnell and Stuart hall with a shoe string budget ! Hearn as the money as the backing but doesn't bid what's needed . Yes the is politics ,yes the Americans have better TV money but at least build our kids properly instead go getting a quick eliminator and in you go regardless of being ready or not .
I'm not a critic of Hearn or a fan of Frankie I'm a boxing fan and wouldn't it be nice to see the rise of fighters like the Ricky hatton days of being built up then . I suppose watching all our lads at domestic level is great on the eyes and some real fights and he does a good job , but I'd like to see our lads given a fair crack at it

No amount of building up would have won rose that fight last night, nor Purdy nor Rees. Just not good enough at the end of the day but they wanted a crack at world level so Hearn has done his job getting them the fights. What's the alternative? Keep fighting at British standard for years and hope to get an aging or weak beltholder over one day so you can call yourself world champion?

If anything nights like last night could be good for British boxing in the long run if they show how far behind we are and motivate people to raise the bar.

I agree that they would not be good enough but Brian rose as a example as made a nice steady rise and progressed really well over the last couple of years , let him keep improving and improving because he was not ready and everyone knew it !
Yes it's a opportunity but these fights could end lads Carears . Any boxer offered a world title ready or not will take it , they need good caring promoters and managers to guide them and give them winnable fights

Don't forget the money involved with fighting for world titles abroad. Sometimes it's securing the fighters future

1 nut, I know what you are saying but there is a little bit of contradiction there. You say all fighters will jump at the chance to fight for a world title, and that's what Hearn is doing.

Now if Hearn had said to Brian Rose - okay we'll make 6-7 defences of your Brtish title in Blackpool, maybe pick up the odd silver title and then move you on to European level and lets leave it at that - then I'm sure Rose (or any other boxer for that matter) would be on the seeking a new promoter. This is a reason why many are seeming to flock to Hearn's stable.

Yes, maybe Hearn/Sky are being a bit tight fisted, but I think the extra 10 percent a fighter would get for fighting at home would not be enough for these fighters to still be competitive against the champion. Fight weaker champions? Maybe in Rees's case but with Purdy and Bellew it might be argued they fought the weakest champion (yes, I know Stevenson is the #1 ranked Light Heavy, but can make a case for Hopkins and Kovalev being better). Andrade was the weakest Light Middle Champion and GGG was very much unproven when he fought Proska and was certainly the least recognisable champion at the time.

Aside from Geale vs Barker (which was neutral), it might sound harsh but I think Hearn was right to show the lack of confidence - be interesting to see what happens with Brook vs Porter - as Brook is a different level to the likes of Purdy and Rose and may stand a decent shout.

Edit - didn't realise Brook vs Porter was signed, thought it was rumours.

I know what you're saying mate but end of the day rose is what, 29? If he ain't any ready now he never will be. I think it's up to the individual fighter to weigh up whether he wants to stay at home and fight within his own class or take a risk and have a go with the big boys. Nobody's forcing them I don't buy that theyccan't turn it down...I know I wouldn't be getting smashed up for 50k or whatever it was, it's only money.

What would you prefer, getting to domestic level and continually defending a WBU title in your local leisure centure for ages? or after winning a British title, step up, fight the best for genuine titles, and get a hefty purse?

I think it's fine for the likes of rose , purdy going abroad for a pasting as they wouldn't have won if it was in their back garden

But..... He should dig deep for the likes of Brook cause he is capable of winning and that home advantage is needed

No, I do not want a return to "Ricky hatton days of being built up". That would not be "nice", it would be fvcking interminable. I can do without shelling out for sixteen fights for a made-up title against binmen & walking corpses for a fighter who should be contesting the Southern Area title.

Can I just ask, between advocating for fights that don't have any risk, safe-matchmaking, domestic alternate universes where local lads fight nobodies to "look after them", & fights for trumped up bullshit titles, are you the actual single reason that's got modern boxing where it is? When the money-men think up a better way to shaft us for fvck-all, are you the target audience?

I'm sure you're well-meaning, but no. No thank you. I like boxing as a sport, thanks, that is, as a competitive endeavour where a person tries to prove themselves physically & mentally within a confined set of rules against those of equal or superior talent.

You're basically wanting a return to the stagnant domestic shithole of ten years ago, with endless bullshit fights in leisure centres for Mickey-Mouse titles.

Again, no, thank you.

PS: Your bullshit is rose-tinted Fwankie-flavoured bullshit anyway. Michael Jennings vs Cotto? Lockett vs Pavlik?

Junk post.

Ask Rose if he wanted to go there and take his shot whilst making money for his family.

So the thread starter thinks that Rose would have won had he had a few more fights :OhYes:

Or that Rees could have done with a few years more experience on top of his 15 years professional experience - which already included a world & European titles. title

Or that Bellew, who'd already had one close title fight, would have benefited from some more Commonwealth title bouts at a weight he was no longer comfortable at :yay:

I think you're all missing a critical element here. What are Sky's instructions to Matchroom regarding World Title fights with none marquee fighters ?
In other words what if they say we don't want to show them ?

Yeah but the other big promoter always gets his fighters home advantage, I mean look at Enzo vs Braehm.......oh!

For me Rose's situation is completely different to Rees and Purdy. Rose won a final eliminator to get his shot, yes the decision was perhaps controversial, but the point remains he won a final eliminator.

Brian London fought Ali, Sibson fought Hagler, Dunn fought Ali, Dave Boy Green fought SRL, Crawford Ashley fought Michael Nunn, I'm sure there are plenty more.
In those days the best of our bunch were expected and respected to fight the best out here.

Boxing fans are a pretty strange bunch. Moan when someone's in a tough fight, moan when someone's in an easy fight.

We had years of this and complained our lads weren't going abroad and fighting top fighters. Now they're going we're complaining too.

Better to try and fail than not try at all.
