I'd like to see him come back as a contender and fight a few times a year but try and win an area title.

Im still undecided. I wish he would take a trainers license out as I'm sure he has a lot to give back to the game with all his experience in and out of the ring. Either way i ish him all the best :TU:

This was his tweet yesterday:

'Been struggling with a bit of depression.been thinking hard of a comeback.after training. My mind is writing checkes my body can't cash.'

So looks like its a no. I'd say righ decision, hope he can find something to fill the void and get his head right. Takes a brave person to be so open massive respect wish him all the best.

I dont think he will. He reached his goal then quit & is now doing other things within the sport.
He posts on here so I would imagine he will give his usual honest answer on what he is doing.

I did go into the gym with the idea of maybe fighting on. I've had a real bad time in my mind over the last few weeks.a big part of me is willing me to turn life in.i guess boxing on would be a form of self harm.my big brother spelled a few home truths and sparring yesterday brought home the fact that its just not in me anymore. I do have the most beautiful kids and I'm determined not to go the same way as my friends the smith's and dean.people close to me tell me not to be so open but,it helps me. The mind can be a very complex thing. I've always had negative emotions. Even as a little boy. Boxing saved my life, also it has been a massive head fornicate.everytime people said I was a loser.it cut to the bone.its harder when I see boys I easily lived with in the ring whilst still pissed from the day before winning titles.you always think what could've been if I were dedicated. Depression is the hardest thing I've been against without a doubt.that said I was good at my job and reaching my goal was massive.anything else would ruin that.didnt envisage just being forgotten but life always just moves on!i will get my act together.i get knocked down.but I will get up again.

Have you tried setting new sporting goals, mate? Extreme endurance training or something like that. Ironmans or whatever. Something like the http://www.marathondessables.co.uk/, for instance.

Good advice that. Alot of people who suffer from depression benefit from a goal or an aim, structure in their life to reach it. Thats why sports like boxing has many ex fighters who suffer from it as their life is one big structure and one big goal and when that is gone, the struggles start.

Be as open as you want mate, especially if it helps!

You were a very brave fighter in the ring and obviously out of it too! Takes some bloody guts to be as open and honest as you have been.

As others said I hope you can find other goals to set youself. Genuinely wish you all the best mate!

Struth Johnny if you don't think you have achieved much then it doesn't give us much hope LOL. To fight 100 times professionally is some feat pal. That is something your great grand kids will boast about one day!

I like what a previous poster said, set some goals now. Do personal training or work with fighters on the defensive side. I know if I was a fighter I would probably rather have you teaching me about the defensive side of boxing than some world champs.

Stick at it pal!

Stick with it Johny. Very few people are open about stuff like depression and it helps others with you being so honest and up front. You arent alone mate, and everyone is rooting for you and hoping that you can see that you can find a way. Thats got to mean something.

Good luck mate.

Johnny don't ever ever think what you achieved isn't what thousands of us would have loved to - everyone that knows boxing properly knows the real score - at least a quarter of your losses should have been wins (hometown decision against you) and that if you would have been the ticket seller/hometown boy and maybe had more backing so that you could work less and train more you would of stood most this kids on their heads. The people within the trade and us proper boxing fans know the score, and you will never be forgotten. Any semi decent big ticket seller can go 8-0 or similar and get title chances, most who get there and then fall short knock the game on the head (or maybe have a few fights or so), whereas you my friend have worked a "normal" job, gone and fought at very short notice all over the country, tested all sorts of "next big thing" kids (many of which with proper training or not getting robbed you would have beat) and done it regurlarly for 100 fights!

And, and this is what I always liked about you, you didn't just come and defend - you entertained people. All the little wind ups in the ring, ok so mostly you were getting booed because it was agains the hometown boy, but it made people enjoy it mate.

You should be proper proud of what you have achieved mate.

Chin up Johnny. You've got far too much personality and charisma to be down mate.

It was an absolute pleasure watching you come against young guys and have a laugh with them during combat. A proper character who earned the respect of every person you encountered.

The effort you put into boxing can be put into countless things mate and I'm certain you'll find that something.

There might be a few rain clouds above your head now Johnny but bad weather always passes son. You'll feel sunshine again soon mate.

Best wishes and stay strong
