Froch Vs Groves 2 PPV Numbers

Post by Newport Daz »

Has anyone got any ideas how successful it was? What sort of number were they going for?

Given the push Sky gave it and the amount of press it got, my guess is around 350k. Any takers?

That won't give the number of buys will it though. BARB figures are no of viewers, I.e. an estimate of the number of actual people watching. I'd expect the PPV sales figure to be significantly different (when you account for pubs, clubs and communal viewings)

When will the fight be shown again on Sky Sports? I only watched the live transmission and was slightly the worse for wear..

It's been available to watch on demand for SKY Sports customers since Tuesday. Not sure when it's going to be on TV.

I have no idea why I posted the word exact, as I know myself BARB isn't an exact science. Unless SKY themselves release the figures, BARB is the next best thing in terms of a legitimate guestimate

Boxing will always have a home in the UK. These numbers prove it.

It's impressive when you think SKY Box Office is only available on SKY and Virgin Media. Between the 2 TV providers they have roughly 14 million TV customers. What that means is every 16th household in the UK, who could access the PPV, actually bought it.

Also very impressive compared to US numbers of 1.2 million for Mayweather vs Canelo, with 6x population

True however PPV's in the States cost over double what they do in the UK. If PPV's here cost £35 a time, and the price of PPV in America got reduced to the price we pay, I think we'd see a massive swing. Regardless 900,000 PPV buys is an incredible figure when you consider the groans from boxing fans when Froch Vs. Groves I was initially announced. If someone told me 12 months ago Froch Vs. Groves would fill Wembley stadium, and sell 900,000 PPV's, I'd have told them to stop smoking crack and get back to reality  Like him or loathe him, Eddie has put British boxing firmly back on the map.

It's not Eddie who made that second fight, it was Carl and George. The first fight sold the second. Yes, Eddie made the first one but even in his wildest dreams, couldn't have wished for it all to turn out as it did.

True. However I imagine having a millionaire father helps a fair bit.
