Yes FW definitely got under Hearn's skin with that interview. Hearn goes a bit David Brent there

You have to give Matchroom credit though, they've really taken the sport on and rarely put on the kind of dross cards that used to happen and they're dragging the other promoters up towards their level as they have to compete.

FW got exactly what he wanted out of his interview. He will have loved to get a reaction out of Hearn, best thing Eddie could have done is to just say 'who?' When asked about FW.

Amusing though.

I was hoping the purse bids between 2 promoters thing was gonna be brought up.

I think in one of Eddie's last interviews he says he would be happy to go to a 'private purse bid' between him and Queensbury to stage say Butler v McDonnell. I think Mr Warren (I have only watched over the interview once) says he would be happy to do the same in certain situations so hopefully that does get brought up again.

Yes but it was more that each seemed to suggest they would be happy for certain fights to be decided via private purse bids involving just the two of them, possibly regulated by the British board or someone like that.

Obviously we all know (or it's certainly my opinion) that certain fighters in each promoters stables just aren't going to be fighting on another promoters bill. Hearn has said openly he would not be able to go to Sky and say something like 'oh, I'v just agreed for Froch, our biggest fighter, to go and fight on allegedly against Cleverly, for Cleverly's WBO light heavyweight title.' But it would seem fighters such as McDonnell, possibly even Quigg and some of the domestic prospects may be able to be matched against the Queensbury guys via some kind of private bidding process.

I don't care what either of them say.
No way will fighters one from each camp get to face off.
Fast Eddie with a fighter on allegedly ?
Wazza with a fighter on Sky ?

I find myself listening to one promoter and agreeing with them only to listen to the other and then agree with them. Both good salesmen to be fair!

I say Fwank came out on top though....Hearn comes across as it being pure business and dollars for matchroom

Completely disagreed with hearn when he said kolorov v cleaverly was the worst match making ever. No eddie these are the fights you have to make for your fighter to be number 1 in the division, something none of your fighters have ever been due to your reluctance to make there types of fights. The fans wanted it and so did the fighters, just cause cleaverly lost does not make it bad match making.

True that. If he wanted to go on about matchmaking he could have spoken about a lot of Clev's previous fights - FW made Cleverly a really uninspiring draw, but that is a fight I was very happy to see.

The problem with Cleverly was he went straight from nobodies to a killer, there was probably a middle ground to be found first (from a promoters POV), though IIRC it was Nathan who wanted that fight.

Paul Smith

Though they were purse bid situations.

Have to admit I thought FW was out of order discusssing purses like that.

the yanks always confirm purses so with the Rose situation I don't think it was a big deal, he was just explaining how much (or little) it would have cost to win the bid

Its a little bit more political than that nandrew.
With the Smiths for instance it was all about tempting them to cross over.
Purse bids you have to deal with.

Fwank made a few significant points about his TV channel. Firstly, he said they're running 20,000 subscribers above the break even level, which is tremendous news, given that he also said the subscriber volumes are more stable these days. Secondly, he acknowledged a change of approach over the past year, spending less on domestic shows and spending more on overseas fights. Regardless of what armchair fans may think, the ultimate litmus test of how best to run the channel is a rising, loyal subscriber base - that tells you you're getting it right.

So he's making 200k gross profit per month ?
Why isn't that reflected in the accounts ?
What constitutes break even ? All costs including purses etc or just the running costs of the tv channel ?

Agreed.......karpency and hawk were bad matching making but for hearn to say the kolerov fight was bad match making is very strange. It was cleaverly biggest fight to date on the world stage (much bigger than clev v bellow 2) it was screened live on hbo and if he won it would have made him massive in america.

I think Eddie is trying to say he hadn't a chance in that fight hence "bad match making" because the defeat had the potential to ruin his career. Time will tell.
Wazza is normally shrewd with picking the right opponent at the right time for his headliners. Then again he worked with the best in the industry with Ernie Fossey bless him.
The Hatton Zoo fight is a good example.

What I put is pretty much all he said on those points, I just thought they were fairly significant for the future of the channel. Doesn't he have a habit of filing accounts at the final moment, ie, if the ship has been steadied and the books are balanced, it might be 2015 before published accounts reflect this.

Not true fella. He said 20k above what their internal forecast was, which is a very different thing to break even, and a number which is internal only. It can be and probably still is a loss making forecast.

It's just a bit better than expected.
