Will Fury vs Chisora TWO capture the imagination?

Post by Sklar »

I'm not feeling the feeling. Has this one started to simmer over on Twitter yet or is it tepid there too?

It's very antic-climactic post Froch Groves II. I assume they were supposed to ride that wave but it feels like the tide has gone out and isn't arsed about coming back.

I also fancy Fury to be kayoed by the overhand shot that floored Kevin Johnson for anyone who gives a slither of a turd about my opinion.

I think this sums it up. No matter how hard they try and push it, it's just not getting anyone's attention.
I'm looking forward to it, it's not a massive fight by any stretch of the imagination but it'll be a good watch.

This has all the ingredients to be an amazing fight and it's a shame it hasn't had the build up it deserves.

Mr warren needs to up his game for this! I can't believe how little hype it is getting. I know all major boxing fans are aware of it and looking forward to it but frank should be reaching out to the newbies who are hooked since the froch fight.

If Hearn had this fight I could guarantee he would have it advertised all over the place and have the general public very excited.

Frank has pushed it extremely hard, at least as hard as Hearn does but the simple fact is, not many people have BN whereas everyone has SKY and most blokes watch an awful lot of Sky Sports News, especially the casuals.

It's going over old ground and people aren't arsed based on the first fight

It's a weird one actually. I'm interested in the fight and will definitely watch it but for some reason it's not something that I actually ever think about. I had forgotten all about this fight until this thread.

Somewhere in there is probably a dig at the promoter.

If this was happening two years ago when both were being naughty, it would be massive. Nowadays, Chisora has calmed himself down and Fury is probably getting fed up with all the litigation he inadvertently generates for himself. Table flips just don't do it as much as a press conference scrap, weigh-in slap or a mouth full of H2O spat at a big Ukrainian.

Chisora vs Fury 1 was the first fight Channel 5 showed live. Post-fight there was a lot of conversation about what Channel 5's coverage was like. And not much about the fight, because it wasn't very interesting. Probably says it all really.

I'm half interested in this fight, but it's not the massive imagination capturing fight that Frank Spank seemed to think it was. I'd be surprised if it sells out the Manchester Arena, or whatever they call the venue now.

It won't sell out. 10,000 would be good numbers. Brad Saunders is doing the job he was brought in for, shifting tickets.

the answer to the question is no (not at all).

neither are big ticket sellers as shown by the shambles at the copper box,,

my friends watch the fights and are average fans not like us on here and they did not even know it was on..

its turning out to be a one horse town and if your not on sky nobody cares.

Not quite true, Haye-Chisora and Mayweather-Canelo had everyone scrambling to subscribe.

That would be near a sell out as only half open which is good double the first fight.Matthews fight off so is Sykes v Walsh and nav v liam smith according to report on twitter!

Not surprised. I knew Derry never wanted it, Walsh never wants it and Nav is injured!

Let's be honest, that's a terrible name for a promotion. It was doomed to failure from the off :-?

The timing of it hasn't helped but it's not capturing the publics imagination yet. It's one of those fights where I haven't followed any of the build up but will be excited for the fight on the night.

I will watch it, mainly because Chisora has to give it a huge whirl to stay relevant and that could mean some fireworks and possibly even an upset, but (agreed) it does not really feel like the huge event just yet.

Fury and Chisora make get the call from Uncle Frank to do something bonkers to get our adrenaline pumping.....which should not be a big ask for either man as they've got more loose screws than an Ikea kitchen.

It's a real shame Fury is no longer on Five. The momentum he was gathering was quite something. A lot of people were talking about him.

Part of the problem lies with the Warrens. They simply don't have a credible platform with which to build a big fight. Combine that with a general apathy towards this bout within the hardcore community and you have a recipy for a fairly flat affair. The fight itself will have it's thrills and spills I'm sure but without the legitimizing production values of Sky and Matchroom, you're left with nothing more than a cheap circus event. It's a shame that neither fighter is really capable of capturing a world title.

Post Froch-Groves II every promotion is likely to feel a bit lacking, but it's a month away yet, and I'm sure plenty of interest will be built up in the week prior.

I'm quite looking forward to it, although the mammoth undercard is being chipped away at gradually.

I reckon if this fight was on Sky, it'd have more interest amongst the casual fans than it does on allegedly.

Chisora and Fury are both more famous than they were in the first fight. Fury's regular appearances on Channel 5 have made him known to more people, and Chisora went on to make a name for himself with the Klitschko and Haye fights. (The Haye fight in particular.)

Hell, Eddie Hearn had everybody believing that Audley Harrison had a chance of beating Haye, when the press had spent a decade complaining that Audley was one of the worst heavyweights ever. Surely he wouldn't let the fact that the first fight was pretty crap get in the way of marketing something that involves two semi-famous British heavies.

i think interest will start to pick up around mid July and as someone mentioned earlier Derek & Tyson will be asked to do something crazy to build things up. Talksport annonced that they will also be covering the fight live and doing build up shows which is pretty much unheard of for commercial radio in boxing so that will significantly help the promotion.

I'm going but only 'cos someone got me a ticket. I'm looking forward to it but only one person so far has mentioned it to me (bloke cutting my hair) so it's not exactly seared into the public's conscience yet.
