Willie Limond

I've watched Limond from almost his first pro fight, and both in terms of his boxing skills and personality outside the ring, I know of no one in recent times more deserving of the Lonsdale belt.

I thought Woodhouse would win, and he never gave up, but Limond was better than I've ever seen him.

yea was glad to seem him win it finally , have met him few times and been to lots of his fights form the Dinner shows to arenas ect when my bro was fighting.

its mad to think that Alex Arthur beat both Limond and Burns with realtive ease what seems a lifetime ago now and they have went on to win Titles after all those years.

The lacklustre Burns of last night would have lost to Limond last night i reckon

Burns although never a hardhitting or strong boxer was able to use his limited strength at SFW to hustle opponents but he cant do it to much smaller men than himself like Zlaticanin,Beltran and Crawford at LW,a move up in weight can suit a lot of boxers but i can see Ricky regressing even more at LWW

I hope im wrong as id like to see Ricky get one more big win before retiring but im afraid it may have passed him

Limond got a very good chance in fighting curtis for the belt , there will be a lot of folk gunning for limond now and see it as a great oppertunity to win the belt, Guys like Saunders / coyle if he moves up will fancy blasting him out of there.

what about scott Harrison :) , although they are both trained by Peter harrison .

Congrats to willie, fully deserved it, I kept trying my best and gave all I had but just felt a step behind, wish willie and his team all the very best, spoke to them after the fight and they are good people, I'm proud to be a former British champion and lost the belt in a good fight and left it all in the ring

Well said,son you're a gentleman and a lost breed. I was at ringside and after that heavy knockdown many a fighter would have given up. But for the next few rounds you were getting back into it and Limond couldn't avoid you're long left jab, in fact I was beginning to think that this might get very close indeed.

You done yourself proud in the ring and out.

I thought Limond boxed very well last night. Not the fastest or biggest hitting, but a very tidy boxer.

Willie was, for me, the most impressive Brit shown. Only DZ was more impressive.

Limmond was excellent in the fight, showing off a good array of technical skills that unfortunately Curtis couldn't fully match.

1 thing that did impress me with Woodhouse is that he seemed to still be learning through the fight, was composed the round after his knockdown, and kept going and going.

Willie would have a stupid amount of knowledge to pass on as a trainer, i really think he could be 1 of the best about, and anybody looking for sparring before stepping through the levels right into world titles would be wise to get him on board just for his technical abillity alone (im not saying he's a world beater, he clearly isn't but he has finer boxing skills than most from these shores)

Limond was impressively defensively. Although he was taking a fair amount of jabs, he was using his arms to block big shots, ducking, slipping, countering.

As others have said, technically he is very sound and boxed as well as ive ever seen him. Im glad it was on a reasonably high stage (Live on sky) for all to see.

Is this the first time Willie had boxed for the British title? At 35? I didn't realise he was 35. Good on him

I notice on his record that he had not fought since June last year - did he retain his Commonwealth title for 12 months without boxing? Seems a long time..... anyway, great bit of success for him after a solid career. Dropped Amir Khan too.....I don't know if you still get kudos for that..

EDIT:

just checked and Willie boxed for the British title at Lightweight in 2011 and also at Super Featherweight back in 2003, so this was his 3rd attempt - at 3 different weight categories, the previous two tries having been unsuccessful. Well done

think brad is the second best lightwelter in britain at moment...brads power has become his problem at mo...needs the rounds but he keeps getting rid of em...me and him sparred ricky for last 4 years regular ...we both know each others abilities.on another note limond was class against curtis last week ,is a handful for any fighter...
