I predict Luke Campbell v Ricky Burns in Hull next year

Post by Manchester Hitman »

Eddie has already said he doesn't want Burns fighting in Scotland anymore...apparently it puts to much pressure on him..yeah good one Eddie. And he has well and truly nailed Ricky into the domestic level coffin now as he really wanted in the first place so I reckon Ricky can now look forward to being the B-side in fights like against Crolla in Manchester..And as the title says I predict he will finally be sacrificed to Luke Campbell in Hull...

I wonder if Ricky still thinks leaving Frank was a good idea

Frank knows how to Milk the most out of his fighters. He knows very well their limitations.

I'm assuming you mean am I going to target fast car Eddie? Well I am openly pro Warren... Not biased but pro warren... However when Frrank is taking the piss I will also be having a go at him, fat mick and Hobson etc

A good solid kid like Burns has been reduced to rubble and it's due to matchroom propaganda...

What did you expect from him less than a year from his pro debut(and his dad diagnosed with a terrible illness)?

How are Matchroom taking the piss? They tried to get his the Vasquez fight but couldn't, they brought Crawford over for him. Should they have just stuck him in with the Cooks and Laryea's? You would have rather seen him in with fighters he was sure to beat right?

This is the reason why FW got away with so many shite fights in years past. And lets remember that Burns fought Mitchell not long ago, its not like he is far removed from domestic matches. He tried stepping up and couldn't. He had been given (with the Crawford fight) an opportunity to be a star, with home advantage, he came up short, and kept doing so.

I would say it has more to do with Burns regressing than anything, so now he drops down a level. You are making it sound like they have ruined him, they gave him the opportunities he wanted, winnable ones, he failed to deliver.

I'll never understand why boxing fans don't want to see the best fighters?

To be fair, Frank did give Burns some pretty good fights. Winning the title in the UK and big defences against Mitchell and Katsides in amongst the usual shite. It's just the argument that he would have shielded Ricky from anyone who might have been able to beat him (as a world champion) and that being a good thing?

Eddie has said he doesn't want Ricky fighting in Scotland any more?

No he said his next few fights will not be there as they will be rebuilding. Having him fighting possibly an 8 or 10 rounder at the big Glasgow Arenas wouldn't be value for money, so he is gonna be on one of the undercards fighting that 8 or 10 rounder before possibly having a domestic fight. I certainly don't think fighting Crolla in Manchester is a small fight at all.

Please..as if fast car had any real intention of forking out to get Vazquez over especially on his first fight for matchroom....no chance mate. They got him to fill sky dates the fact that he was a double world Champion thanks to Frrank was an added bonus..I bet Eddie told Ricky that he needs to get established on sky before he gets the big fights which is total bollocks so he brought over what he thought was going to be a cheap knock over in Gonzalez -it's not Eddies fault that Gonzalez turned out to be a nightmare but it was avoidable and was the beginning of the end of Ricky. Terrance Crawford was always going to be Nightmare for Burns and yeah Eddie did his best by bringing him to scotland- my only real problem with that was could he have not found a way of at least stalling the fight for abit - Ricky only just had his jaw busted by Beltran and then to put him in with Crawford
Straight away was suicide..I know Terrance was mandatory but stall the fcuker by pulling a sicky or something to give him more time

Both Gonzalez and Crawford were mandatories, so I'm not sure how you suggest avoiding them without making it obvious (ie vacating the title.)

I never heard of Gonzalez until Eddie came on board and started going on about the fight so unless there was anything I missed gonzalez's team where not exactly pressuring for their shot - I'm not 100% sure of that so correct me if I'm wrong

Team Gonzalez must have thought it was April fools when fast cars office came on the phone

Gonzalez was the mandatory enforced by the WBO?

Burns would have had to vacate if he didn't fight him, yet it was a mistake for Eddie to make it? Plus it opened up further oportunities in the future having got the mandatory out of the way

To my mind, Burns was a massive overachiever who exploited his talent as far as it would go, got a couple of nice paydays (Mitchell was no world title challenger really, was he? and yet that was made into a massive fight), but didn't just want to take the good old traditional WBO defences against local boys route. He wanted to fight the next level, and he couldn't cut it. That's no shame, nor is it him being ruined. He can rebuild at domestic level, probably win the European, and look for another world title challenge against a weaker champ, but he's shown that if he goes to the very top level, it's going to go badly. His last 4 fights could all have been defeats, couldn't they?

Good summation.

Campbell looks like he has the tools for the top. Lots of workrate, variety, decent pop. If he can take a shot he's going to be hard to beat.

Exactly. People would prefer to have seen him in nothing but fights where he was favourite it seems. Christ knows how that is preferable.

I agree with most of that. Look, I know I'm massively contradicting myself interms of how a world champion boxer should operate but I look at things as case by case. frank and Billy Nelson took what was a fairly mediocre domestic level kid but one with real heart, toughness and determination and moulded him into 2 weight world champion. frank put all the promotional hard work and investment in and knew his limitations and with the Vazquez unification he had lined up was getting ready to fatten Ricky up for some mega purses to take home to the family before getting exposed by the likes Gonzalez and Beltran. Again, I know this contradicts the sporting element of boxing and I am clearly very bitter which I'm not trying to hide but the two of the three people responsible for Ricky's achievements where dumped by the hands of fast car but at the end other day it's was Ricky's choice so he will have to live with it

I cannot see it happening. I could see Burns moving up to Light Welter before the fight gets talked about.

I’m not sure that is a good idea considering the options there. I’m not even sure Campbell is good option for Burns, Luke has decent speed and power, next year he will probably be better.
