yeh mate misunderstanding... The ko's were for me, he beat me in the schoolboy quarter finals 1985 (then beat mccarick in the semis!!) at 14 he'd had 54 bouts won 50 when I boxed him
I always thought Matthew Hatton should have boxed for the Lonsdale belt. I know people will say he boxed for this or that (World title) but I'd say he had a little family "help" in that endeavour. Not his fault I know. At one point he'd racked up around 35 fights I think and had never boxed for the British Title, and the lads around him in the rankings were on about 15-20 fights.
I think that there are several occupants of the British title that would have turned him away - as Craig Watson did for the Commonwealth, but after that loss he seemed to go IBO (?) and then suddenly Saul Alvarez....I think he skirted his way around the top end of the British scene. I ain't calling the lad or saying he wasn't a game fighter, but I thought after 30 or 40 fights he might have put his British credentials on the line, and I don't think he did, did he?
EDIT: just had a memory that he fought Kell Brook, that was possibly a British title fight?
EDIT 2: Boxed Brook for the WBA Inter-Continental as well as the IBF International title.

Come on, Dickinson took place years after the period I'm talking about. Fury had gained a lot more experience by then - he talked his way up. It was also at Cruiserweight, which he'd never boxed at before.
Sam Sexon fight was the final of a Prizefighter and I think Chris had about 10 minutes before the final while Sexton was having a rest. Not saying he beats him otherwise, I'm just saying it could be a factor when one fighter gasses.

now who's being silly? Fury publicly called out all British fighters from more or less the start - which is great. But I personally don't believe serious offers were being made. At the time he was turning up on ITV4 in places like York Hall looking overweight. I think lads like Price and Burton could have beaten him around that time, but someone didn't want those fights - one side or the other or both, I don't know.
For the record I like Fury.
