Expect Hall will contest the vacant title against Caballero.

Re: Butler to vacate world BW title
Farcical though when a SFW can have 1 fight at BW fight for a belt, win it then just as quickly move back down,I dont blame Paul but it does devalue the belt and rankings,15 other ranked fighters(before Butler nudged his way in) all willing and craving the chance to win it and defend it just to be pushed out the way only for someone to win it and drop it a month later as if to say "there's your belt im finished with it,fight amongst yourselves for it"
As i says i dont blame Butler bur the IBF should take a look at themselves and maybe think more carefully who they pick to be in their top 15
But hey what you gona do?

But Caballero isnt English, isnt that compulsary these days to fight for the IBF Bantamweight title, maybe Hall will rematch McDonnell for it,or Ward might get another gojameswilson wrote:Expect Hall will contest the vacant title against Caballero.

Re: Butler to vacate world BW title
I hope our lads have benefited from winning the IBF title recently. Their bantamweight belt has become like their super-feather belt 5-10 years ago, where you had an endless round-robin of nowhere-near elite level South Africans passing it back & forth between them: Fana, Baloyi & Klassen were solid international class but several rungs below the top boys.handsofstone wrote:But Caballero isnt English, isnt that compulsary these days to fight for the IBF Bantamweight title, maybe Hall will rematch McDonnell for it,or Ward might get another gojameswilson wrote:Expect Hall will contest the vacant title against Caballero.
I wonder if the rest of the world sighs & rolls its eyes when it hears the words "IBF bantamweight champion", like I used to when they used to say "IBF super-featherweight champion"?
The IBF had a series of South African challengers for their super-bantam title in a row a couple years back too, I think Tklani Ndlovu must've fought Stevie Molitor more times than Pac-Man's seen Marquez...
Oh what a strange governing body you end up with when the long-term fallout from FBI investigations leave you with a maniacal attention to the letter of your own laws & a farce going on unquestioned in your rankings, 'cos, "hey, we follow our own rules! Look! We said this bloke was number one & he got a title shot!"
PS: It also makes for kerrayzee statistical anomalies; they kept giving Manuel Medina shots, 'cos hey, everyone from feather to super-feather for ten years got to pound on the corpse of Medina, but the usual suspects in South Africa they had who were holding the belt couldn't reliably turn him away, which meant Medina became something like a four-time world champion (it might've been five, I forget, I know it got silly) off the back of it.

Re: Butler to vacate world BW title
I know this isn't directly related but last year the IBF held a show in Mongolia (it's not on boxrec) featuring some North Korean fighters who won various IBF Asia titles, including one in the Bantamweight division...I want to know what that was all about but it appears to be one of those "lost events", despite footage emerging from the show recently
Re: Butler to vacate world BW title
Surely Hobson can't be happy with FW about this. It does seem as if Butler never had the intention of sticking at Bantam and facing a tricky mandatory. Is there any guarantee that Hall will be the one facing Caballero for the vacant belt?

Hobson and FW are working together - Dennis would have known the score before the fight.

letting a figher box up a weight for a title at his first attempt, and in doing so completely queue jump does sound ridiculous. I understand that Butler had to hang in there at the end and might have wilted if we had still been in the 15 round days.
Re: Butler to vacate world BW title
They were open about the option of going back down to super flyweight and admitted that before Hall got the world title shot there was no plans to move up.magnus wrote:Surely Hobson can't be happy with FW about this. As for who will fight for the vacant title, the IBF officially updated the rankings on the 22nd June, but they still list Hall as the champion and are unchanged from the previous month, the rankings are usually updated earlier in the month as well. So it's a bit unclear who will fight Caballero for the title, Daiki Kameda is #3, but his last two fights have been at super flyweight, Julio Ceja is ranked 4, so I would assume he would be next in line unless Hall's placed above him in the next set of rankings, but they were due 3 weeks ago, fvck knows what the IBF are doing.
Re: Butler to vacate world BW title
Butler actually fought for WBA Intercontinental BantamWeight Title in his previous fight hence not his first attempt

Re: Butler to vacate world BW title
To be honest, before writing I forgot about Hobson's relationship with the IBF, so Hall's likely to get a shot before long.
Re: Butler to vacate world BW title
Also why the hell is number 2 vacant in their rankings ???expe wrote:They were open about the option of going back down to super flyweight and admitted that before Hall got the world title shot there was no plans to move up.magnus wrote:Surely Hobson can't be happy with FW about this. Re: Butler to vacate world BW title
They don't rank anyone at 1 or 2 normally. If you won an eliminator, you get moved up to 2, win the next one, usually a final eliminator and you get moved up to 1 and become mandatory. It's a stupid system but so are all the other governing bodies rankings.Naandrew wrote:Also why the hell is number 2 vacant in their rankings ???expe wrote:They were open about the option of going back down to super flyweight and admitted that before Hall got the world title shot there was no plans to move up.magnus wrote:Surely Hobson can't be happy with FW about this. I don't like the man, but it's nice to see a bloke talking out about this, where the casual sports fan can see it, rather than the usual vested interest "B-b-b-but it'll sell some more tickets!" responses.

Yep, totally the best thing about alphabet bullshit titles is when someone like Manuel Medina beats the local protected fella for a belt.
I laughed for about a week when he beat Scott Harrison, was triffick.

You are the man Datsue. I doubted it once, but the force is strong recently.
