Carlos Zarate v. Lupe Pintor

Post by ferocity »

Was this the fight that Zarate thought he was robbed? Then later retired from boxing for a few years?

I just seen the fight the other day and if it wasn't for the Zarate knockdowns the fight may not have been as close. Zarate looked tenitive, but when he pressed and was in the inside he looked like the much stronger and harder puncher. But Pintor looked like the aggresor and had some good combinations. I seen his fight against Gomez and that was a great performance by both fighters - Gomez and Pintor.

The spanish anouncer called it for Pintor as I did but it was a closer fight do to the knockdowns.

I was surprised to hear the announcer say, in Zarates last fight he was ko'd by Gomez. Why is it he took such a tough fight after his ko lose to Gomez.

Also what happened to Pintors career after the Zarate fight?

yes,

i believe the lone judge who scored it for zarate scored the fight 145-133 zarate!!!! thats how off and suspicious the cards were. a lot of people at ringside thought zarate had won by anywhere from 1 to 9 points.

Zarate might have thought he was robbed but not many others did. It was a close fight and the judge who had it for Zarate by a wide margin must have gone to that fight with his scorecard already filled out.

Zarate was a big favourite; the Gomez loss nowithstanding, given that Wilfredo was now being seen as a potential great too and a slightly bigger man. It was expected that Zarate would continue his winning way at 118. (He'd already made another defence of that title since the loss to Gomez.)Unfortunately for Carlos, Lupe didn't read the script.

I thought Pintor did enough to win against a bloke who had taken him too lightly.

Not having seen the fight since it happened, my impression at the time was that Zarate had won the fight
