Matt Skelton
Re: Matt Skelton
Joshua will need to know how to fight dirty for this one or at least know how to deal with someone who does know.
I just re-watched the Skelton fights against Price & Dallas. He came out swinging and had some success even against Price when fighting in a phone box in the 1st round, the 2nd round however was obviously a different story.
Joshua will get hit in the opening stages but if he takes those and Skelton is unable to bully him then he will get the stoppage in the 2nd or 3rd. If Skelton can bully him and keep it in close though, he might be in trouble.

Re: Matt Skelton
Eddie Hearn announced today that Joshua's fight after Skelton is Yaroslav Zavorotyni who just went 10 rounds with David Price

Re: Matt Skelton
I am in quandry here..
My heart told me Robin Reid would win prizefighter and his last fight too.. he didn't.. and I put money on...
Matt Skelton I have massive respect for - a peak Matt Skelton vs Lucas Browne for European title I would of paid decent bucks
to watch.
Matt Skelton at his peak I would say would beat Ant Josh at this early in his career.
My head says don't put any money on him, my heart is telling me to chuck a few quid on him because he really does just go for it and
likes a tear up and does have a sledgehammer of a punch...
Does anyone know if he really really has been training for this, who has he been sparring etc.?
not a bad read here but want to see know more !

Re: Matt Skelton
He's looking very light indeed! I reckon he could blow AJ away in one round.
Re: Matt Skelton
Just re-checking his record - he last did 10 rounds with john mcdermott lost on points.
So putting it mildy he should survive 6 rounds with Anthony Joshua - he said in the price fight he wasn't prepared.
Skelton has never made excuses etc, etc and does come forward with a lets have a tear up attitude and he doesn't fear
anyone - so lets see how Joshua does when he is backed up.
I am going to the bookies tomorrow !

Re: Matt Skelton
I love Skelton but a 4-0 Pulev blew him away years ago. He's just too old.
Re: Matt Skelton
Matt looks svelt at 17st1lb but it's clear and normal that his muscle mass is deserting him as the years rack up.

Imagine if my Auntie had bollocks. Who'd be my Uncle then? She would!columbo wrote:Imagine if Joshua did look to the 47 plus Skelton. Where would his career be then.
Re: Matt Skelton
Joshua versus a 47-year old who hasn't fought in 16 months - got a bad feeling about the outcome of this fight. There's always a good chance that the referee stops the fight ridiculously prematurely though.

Re: Matt Skelton
Skelton has no chance. And if he's really "47" I'm a woman with huge knockers...
Re: Matt Skelton
should i bet on first rd or second rd, 2nd round is better odds, is Skelton good enough now to last till the 2nd i cant decide ![[icon_witsend.gif] :witzend:](./images/smilies/icon_witsend.gif)

Re: Matt Skelton
Skeleton hadn't fought in over a year and was 47. If anyone thinks this was a decent match up is fully kidding themselves. AJ looks great when nothing coming back but let's see what he's like when someone half decent starts to land on him.

Got to love the bear. No frills, 100%, tough as old boots and he could fight.
I hope he has earnt well out of the game and calls it a day now.

Re: Matt Skelton
Yeah. He was pretty old when he started boxing. He can be proud of what he achieved. British and Commonwealth Champion, and gave us some good memories.lillywhite14 wrote:Got to love the bear. No frills, 100%, tough as old boots and he could fight.

He's gone on for a couple of fights too long as it is.

Can't believe that big strong bear who used to brutally maul fighters has been reduced to getting knocked around so easily. I hope he hangs them up now. His self-belief went when Rogan broke him.
Quite a force from 2002-2008. A good run indeed for such a late starter.
