Louis would have beaten Ruhlin the easiest of those you mentioned.Cap wrote:When asked in that clip if he could have beaten Joe Louis, he says, "Well, I beat better men than Joe Louis." Of his three toughest opponents while in his prime Fitzsimmons, Corbett and Ruhlin, only Fitz would've stood the gaff for more than a couple of rounds, but Joe would've put him away inside 6 easy. Corbett would've had to run away to avoid being knocked cold. If he tried to box, Louis would've torn him apart like he did Schmeling in their second fight. As for Ruhlin. KO in 1. Choynski and Sharkey were too small to be even considered.
Jeffries must have been hard up to let himself be shown pushing a lawnmower as hired help.
Totally disagree on the rest. Corbett was a fantastic boxer, at least on the level (and bigger) than Billy Conn who gave Louis fits.
Fitzsimmons was a stupidly hard puncher in his own right, and tough as nails. To say he'd be put away "easy" is just not accurate.
Sharkey was a burly, strong guy. He was short, but he was VERY far from small. He'd give ANYONE a rough night.
As for Choynski, he was big enough to beat Jack Johnson, who was at least comparable in size to Louis and at best the bigger man. He definitely had the bigger bone structure.
I'd favor Louis in all of these fights, but to say Fitz, Corbett, or Sharkey would be a walk in the part is just not true.
