Froch v Degale 2014

Post by Manchester Hitman »

Ok come on lads lets start discussing this fight shall we? :OhYes:

We know its next on the agenda as this Vegas thing is just not going to happen IMHO.
Hearn (and I'm not critizsing him as I want to see the Degale fight) has no intention of going to America to do a deal with the likes of Arum when he and Sky can put on another big primetime UK fight where Eddie is in control of all the money as its an in house fight. US TV would most probably buy into it also.

Chavez is in dispute with Arum who couldn't even get him to fight Golovkin so why anybody thinks
There Is even a 25% chance this fight will happen is beyond me.

I'm going for Chunky on points :box:

Degale could beat Groves, that's the worry.....but he has had two tries already and failed to do so, so a 3rd could produce the same sort of result. Would George have difficulty motivating himself to go back down a level?

Also - and I warmed to this guy once - I could see Degale being a bit of a tw*t if he beat George Groves....it would be something like this "well I always knew I was better than him and tonight I proved, I proved I'm the better man....no I don't see the point in a rematch because everybody can see I'm the best fighter"...... As though losing to him previously just didn't even happen  .

Didn't think the thread was about DeGale vs. Groves - but if it is about his chunkiness against Froch I would go for another decisive win for Carl in the middle rounds.

Both Froch and Groves would beat DeGale. Very pleasing because the guy is a complete and utter k n o b.

Froch to stop DeGale middle to late rounds.

Has degale ever been hit by a puncher as big as froch?

As we saw with groves that you can outbox froch but when he catches you, it hurts and the same goes for degale as groves, will he stand up to it.

Groves lasted 9rds against a poor froch and 8against a decent froch I'd say similar would happen to chunky.

Froch has never been known as a particularly big puncher at world level though. No evidence that Degale won't be able to take Froch's shots clean, he seems solid enough. Groves had always been known to be fairly chinny.

I'd say there is evidence, people don't generally take Froch's shots clean and go home with the win.

I got mixed up there by the OP josco, sorry.

Chunky on points is a very romantic notion indeed! There's as much chance of a Chunky KO win. The sort of guys Degale has put away are the sort who struggle to fight back when it gets put on them - of which CF is definitely not that type.

Not quite sure how good Degale actually is. I felt that he could have won the Groves bout if he'd stepped it up a bit but he either didn't seem to get out of 2nd gear or Groves didn't let him.

Was very impressed with his performance last time out but maybe that was down to the opposition.

Froch would obviously start as favourite. I'm hoping this fight doesn't get made as I'd love for him to have his dream Vegas bout. Be nice to see a rematch against Ward. He lost that bout but not as widely as people seem to think nowadays.

They may not have got the win, but plenty of boxers have stood up to Froch's punches for 12 rounds. Let's not get carried away with the Groves ko, yes it was a great punch but when was the last time Froch ko'd someone like that? It's not like Froch has suddenly turned into a one punch knock-out artist.

I'm not saying Degale would necessarily beat Froch, but he's definitely the type of boxer that has given Froch problems in the past. It's not unthinkable that Degale could employ similar tactics to Ward & come away with the win.

I think it suits Eddie Hearn to get Degale and Froch on asap, with the hope that Degale wins and takes on the mantle.

Not sure Degale is busy enough to beat Froch. Degale was good last time out but generally when his fights go the distance he seems to lose concentration at certain points.

Boxing is all about levels, as they say.

All 3 boxers are nobs - some are bigger nobs than others.

My own personal ranking is:

1. Degale is a right proper nob. I have tried to like him but can't.

2. Froch is a nob. I did start to like him after the Pascal fight, but all his talk about his legendary status confirms his nob-ness.

3. I thought Groves was alright, but he has come across as a nob, although he is less of a nob than the other two.

this post is absolutely fantastic! ..... I used to like Degale too - albeit in print after some interviewer had gone round his house. Him and the old fart of a promoter pointing and laughing at Groves's clothing (suit and tie) in a presser. It's not exactly gonna win you friends  .....As you say, Groves seemed a nice fella but he morphed into a knob in the run up Froch. What was it Oscar Wilde said..? Better to let people think you're an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

I'm still willing to give Degale another chance, whereas Froch does come across unlikeable quite a lot.

There is nothing wrong with Degales chin - he's never been on his arse and I've only visibly seen him hurt once when he took a flush shot when he won the European. James like many other sturdier Supermiddles would have taken that punch that splattered Groves who sadly is abit chinny/vulnerable.

I fancy Degale has got it in his locker to withstand frochs drives and maybe to do a similar job on Carl that Dirrell did- whether its enough to get the actual verdict will be another matter entirely.

If Degale is the only option that Hearn can get for Carl he'll retire.

I wouldn't want to see Froch waste the short time he got left of his career on this fight.

fair enough, but I was surprised at how receptive Froch seemed when Nelson posed the question

I'm sure Carl could make 2 or 3 million quid if he fought Degale. All things considered it's not to be sniffed at.
