11 July 2014 - Little Creek Casino, Shelton, Washington USA

Post by ddtfamily »

I attended Friday Night Fights at Shelton Washington 7-11-2014; these are the results of the non-televised undercard bouts as announced by the ring announcer (my comments added).

Jennifer Hamman UD (4 rounds) over Arial Beck

This was Hamman's pro debut. She dominated Beck from the opening Bell, getting a flash knockdown a few seconds into round 1 (Beck was off-balance, but it was a correct call as a punch was landed). Beck, who appeared larger and more muscular, was outclassed in every facet, taking shots and unable to effectively deliver her own.

Shariff "Woo" Johnson vs. Fatlum Zhuta: Majority Draw decision.

One judge scored in favor of Zhuta and over the course of the bout, Zhuta was better, landing more punches and being the effective aggressor more often than Johnson. But in a round by round scoring system, this was a fair decision. In the two rounds Johnson won, he had the bigger moments. I had this one a draw as well.

Kenneth Sims, Jr. TKO2 over Evan Woosley.

Woosley is an opponent type fighter and was dominated by Sims from the opening bell. Sims looked well-trained - very impressive. During Round 1, Woosley sustained a nasty cut over his left eye and after the first round, the ring doctor took a long look at it. Woosley's corner advised the referee that Woosley could not answer the bell for round 2 and the fight was declared a technical knockout win for Sims.

Marquise Weston UD (4 rounds) over Jared Torgeson

Weston entered the ring fit and ready while Torgeson, an opponent-type fighter, was a pound over the Cruiserweight limit and not well-conditioned. Weston dominated from the opening bell, clearly at a much higher level in terms of conditioning and skill. Torgeson was not able to land very often, and when he did, Weston seemed unaffected. Weston had a more professional corner and appears to have a bright future.

Eduardo Martinez UD (4 rounds) over Lavalle Wilson

Despite being in tremendous physical condition, Wilson did not have the boxing skills needed to challenge Martinez and was the clear loser in every round - an easy decision for the judges. That said, Wilson obviously worked hard on conditioning and it appeared that he could be a legitimate fighter if he can land more punches.

Richardo Maldonaldo SD (4 rounds) over Guillermo Delgadillo

In this battle of local fighrers, Maldonaldo earned a split decision win. It was unclear how a judge could have found more than 1 round in favor of Delgadillo as Maldonaldo was much more effective for most of the bout. Delgadillo was in impressive physical condition but he ate punches all bout and will need to learn defense in order to have a future.

One correction:

Richardo Maldonaldo MD (4 rounds) over Guillermo Delgadillo: I mistakenly wrote "SD" in my original post. But referring back to my notes, it was actually declared a Majority Decision as one judge had it a draw, the other two in favor of Maldonaldo. Sorry about the error.
