Disappointed with Bellew
Disappointed with Bellew
Anybody else a bit disappointed with Bellew's behaviour the other night? I've always been a fan, but I'm beginning to tire of his bad attitude, delusion and his constant disrespect towards Cleverly. Why does he feels he has to always act like an psychopath to get himself fired up?
Leaning over the ropes and screaming "you're fornicating dead" at Cleverly live on Sky, what sort of role model is that? I know boxing historically isn't always the best sport to be looking for role models, but we often see footage of Bellew in his community and with kids supporting him - is this really what they need to see? There seemed to be some sort of scuffle at Ringside just after that incident, was it a fan in the crowd trying to get at Clev? The stupid behaviour by Bellew could have caused a riot.
And his comments after the fight were ludicrous. Firstly he ridicules Cleverly's achievements and title, whilst sitting proudly with an utterly worthless WBO International Belt over his shoulder, then excuses his prior defeat on home turf against Clev being down to him being a novice at the time, followed by complaining about why Clev didn't agree to an immediate rematch. Seriously, why the fornicate should Cleverly, a (WBO) world champion at the time, give an immediate rematch to a self proclaimed novice who he had just beaten in his home town? I supported Bellew before and after that fight but believe Clev definitely did the right thing for his career by moving on. It was up to Bellew to get back in line and prove himself worthy of a rematch.
Absolutely pathetic Tony. One would have thought getting smashed by Stevenson would have brought him down to earth a little, but that doesn't seem to be the case. The overly aggressive pre-fight behaviour followed by dull in ring performances bored everybody to pieces at 175. I agree he looks much more suited to Cruiserweight and I enjoyed the fight on Saturday, but I wish he'd grow up and learn to restrain himself a bit.

Re: Disappointed with Bellew
He seems like a decent bloke and comes across well in general but trying to have a fight with every single opponent in press conferences and weigh ins and the classless disrespect in the ring he has for his opponents ruins it for him (end of rounds etc) Spiting deliberate or not and squealing about people being pussies or being dead is not what this sport is supposed to be about, trying to headbutt and shove your opponent after the round has finished is chav like. Alright a bit of verbal little shoulder nudge if you really dont like the guy but Bellew goes way to far.
Re: Disappointed with Bellew
He doesn't act in any way like a psychopath. He's probably the antithesis of a psychopath. Read up on the traits of a psychopath.johnswan1 wrote:Why does he feels he has to always act like an psychopath to get himself fired up?

Bellew = Bellend
Re: Disappointed with Bellew
Have to agree with the sentiments on here, which is a shame as in other circumstances he comes across as a decent enough guy. The bottom line is that he's already had the opportunity of 12 rounds to do his worst to Clev and he didn't even put a dent in him. He should just keep it buttoned until the rematch and do his talking in the ring.
Re: Disappointed with Bellew
I think he ssss great love him can't wait till him chin clev

Psychopathy is traditionally defined as a personality disorder characterized by enduring antisocial behavior, diminished empathy and remorse, and disinhibited or bold behavior.Sklar wrote:He doesn't act in any way like a psychopath. So this is the opposite of how Bellew behaves?
Re: Disappointed with Bellew
Couldn't agree more about bellew, I thought his comments towards cleverly in his boxing monthly interview were out of order and Saturday nights behaviour was embarrassing. The way he went for Clev twice with the intention of someone holding him back and when they didn't he stopped himself, that looked ridiculous. His pre fight talk is always a lot bigger than his performance aswell.

Re: Disappointed with Bellew
If those traits are only focused on one person then they aren't broad and engrained enough to be full on psychopathy.johnswan1 wrote:Psychopathy is traditionally defined as a personality disorder characterized by enduring antisocial behavior, diminished empathy and remorse, and disinhibited or bold behavior.Sklar wrote:He doesn't act in any way like a psychopath. So this is the opposite of how Bellew behaves?
So while not the opposite, hatred of an individual isn't psychopathic behaviour.
Re: Disappointed with Bellew
I thought bellew acted like a knob. If the wbo world title is a plastic belt what was the one he was proudly wearing ringside? He comes across before a fight as a decent bloke as soon as he goes into fight week he turns to bellend and chats bull.
I would have thought the pasting Stevenson gave him would have grounded him a bit like clev is just saying ok, I won last time and ill win again. It's a tasty rematch but sky are going to make it into something massove

Re: Disappointed with Bellew
He's always come across as a bit of a scally to me - in those moments where he gets wound up and loses his temper a bit I just see your average scally/scrote.
Which is a shame, as he talks a good game when he's calm and clear so it's obviously a temper problem where he gets himself wound up and gets that mad-eyed look about him. It really doesn't do him any favours popularity-wise.
Agree the last defeat should have humbled him a bit, he was out of his depth and got beat fairly routinely.

Re: Disappointed with Bellew
I thought Bellew generally seemed very likeable when he was posting here, but he is a major hothead in fight mode. I can understand intensity in that context, but he loses his cool and takes it too far at times.

Re: Disappointed with Bellew
Clev's a nice guy... so it is a bit odd that he hates him so much
Re: Disappointed with Bellew
Tony seems a pretty sound guy in interviews until he gets wound up slightly and slips into scally mode.

Re: Disappointed with Bellew
What a wally. All this crap didn' t scare Cleverly the last time did it so he should push his energies into something more positive, like how he actually is going to beat him.
Re: Disappointed with Bellew
Totally bored by bellew now.
Which is a shame. Because this is a competitive domestic cruiserweight match up. But after investing time and effort listening to bellew saying he would retire clev the first time around before looking a level below, saying he would die in the ring, before boring us to death and scraping a draw with Chilemba, and then telling us he'd shut the critics up before being destroyed by Stevenson, I'm done with him.

Re: Disappointed with Bellew
probably sh*tting himself so he tries to "get inside the other guy's head" to give himself an advantage, which he obviously feels he needs in order to succeed. Someone like Stevenson will smash up a bully 10 times out of 10.Finn wrote:He seems like a decent bloke and comes across well in general but trying to have a fight with every single opponent in press conferences and weigh ins and the classless disrespect in the ring he has for his opponents ruins it for him (end of rounds etc) Spiting deliberate or not and squealing about people being pussies or being dead is not what this sport is supposed to be about, trying to headbutt and shove your opponent after the round has finished is chav like. Re: Disappointed with Bellew
i think hes a bit delusional with how good he is , He may ahve been drained makling the weight first time round but he did stay at that weight for 2 years , Cleverly will stick close to him and out work him i reckon
Bomber seems to just try and telegraph the Hook and straight right , dont get me wrong when it lands its a peach but cleverly has his number for me and Tony will struggle to handle it after Clev beats him again i reckon
good fight though

Re: Disappointed with Bellew
I was mildly entertained by his antics. Whilst I do agree that he thinks a lot more highly of himself than is realistic, I reckon he's just trying to hype himself and his fights up. Bums on seats and all that.

From Sporting Life:
http://www.sportinglife.com/boxing/news ... n-cleverly
Bellew was predictably forthright and controversial when asked why he does not get along with his Welsh rival.
"Because he's a w****r," Bellew told sportinglife.com.
"There is genuine disdain, hate ... whatever you want to call it here. Carl [Froch] and George [Groves] recently served up something, that in my opinion, was manufactured but you have no idea how much I want to hurt him.
"I've never wanted to cause any hurt or damage to any fighter I've faced in the past but I want to smash his head from pillar to post. I won't be happy with just a win - I won't be happy with just a knockout ... I never want to see him in a boxing ring again."
Then for the first time Bellew opened up as to exactly the reasons why his rivalry with Cleverly has become so personal.
"When we first fought I thought 'well I don't really like you but you're not that bad'," said former world title challenger Bellew, 31.
"We fought and shared 12 rounds and I'm not saying I was robbed in that first fight, but I thought I'd done enough to win. It was a close fight that could have gone either way and I thought it should have gone my way.
"In the ring after the fight the words he said to me were 'that's the hardest fight I've ever had, there'll be no rematch - I'm never fighting you again. You're a very good fighter but that's it'.
"His dad said the same but he added that they thought I would be chinny and easy to hit - they thought they would blow me away basically.
"Then when I looked back at his after-fight press conference he claimed he had never got out of second gear, it was an easy fight, he'd done it with two cracked ribs and claimed I was nothing as a fighter.
"That infuriated me and winds me up so much that I could kick his head in right now. He dissed me and slated me after saying something totally different to my face and I can never forgive that.
"Why would you say something to my face and then go in a press conference and basically tell a lie? He's a liar and he cons everybody with what he says ... 'I've got a degree, I'm a nice person, I'm a great fella' - he's a lying scumbag. If he had said in the press conference what he told me in the ring then there would be no nastiness now.
"So when I knock him out in the second fight there will be no shaking hands, he won't be coming near me - I'll tell him to sling his hook.
"And I'm going to walk into the press conference and say that's the easiest fight I've ever had - even if my nose and both hands are broken.
"So that's why I hate and despise him - it sits horribly with me that he lied and that's why I have evil intentions towards him."
Cleverly has also joined in the resurfacing war of words but Bellew claims any hatred is one-sided.
"His supposed hatred of me is manufactured - he has no reason to hate me," said the diehard Everton fan (22-2-1 14KOs).
"At the end of the day the only reason he is fighting me again is that he'll get a big payday. He doesn't want to fight me - but he has nowhere else to go. Why didn't he give me a rematch straight after the first fight when I begged for it? I even said I'd go to Cardiff for it but he still didn't want to know.
"His career is based on lies. It's one thing beating me at 175lbs (light-heavyweight) but it's another beating me at 200lbs (cruiser).
"There'll be no nastiness in the build-up to the next fight. I will not be the first one to attack because I don't think the facts sit well with him and he doesn't want to hear them. But make no mistake, this is not just business - this is personal."

Re: Disappointed with Bellew
Bellew is the typical insecure, poorly educated scum bag.
Wanting to end another guys career because he lied in a press conference and dissed him?! Fvck off and leave the sport.

Re: Disappointed with Bellew
It's a very strange comment to make, especially as Bellew was extremely lucky that the referee stepped in to save him against Stevenson who would probably have rendered him unconscious had the fight continued a few seconds longer. Perhaps if he had been hospitalised he would think a little more carefully before making comments like this.tallsdav wrote:Bellew is the typical insecure, poorly educated scum bag.

Re: Disappointed with Bellew
he made all sorts of derrogatory comments about Bob Ajisafe who couldn't punch his way out of a paper bag and would definitely get stopped. Think Bellew was on his back after 2 rounds and the fight went the distance.
Just needs to say less sometimes. If you haven't got anything nice to say then don't say anything at all..

Re: Disappointed with Bellew
He's got all of us suckers talking.
Re: Disappointed with Bellew
He probably gobs off so much as he knows his limited ability isn't enough to sell the kind of tickets required for him to get decent paydays.
I don't believe for one minute that he genuinley ''hates'' cleverly either.
Cleverly must be one of the least hateable guys in the sport he basically just quietly goes about his business, think it's all for the cameras/papers.
All pretty desperate if you ask me,a bit like the promtional tactics for fury chis 2 they are trying to force feed us something we're interested in but not really that fussed about.
