McCrory was also the only Sky pundit who dared to criticise the stoppage in Froch vs Groves 1.Rockys gum shield wrote:Naandrew wrote:FairPlay to him criticizing Gallagher about fielding and Smith.
Why talk about being world champion when you're not proving you are the best in Liverpool
This...
We want our pundits to say it as it is, if not it's boring and predictable.

Re: Glen McCrory
I'm starting to think that Ed Robinson is the only person at sky who watches fights that are referenced. I.e I very much doubt Froch had seen the cleverly v kovalev fight in full. Halling and watt probably get fed some highlights of opponents in some cases and none in others.
Paul smith is decent but having Froch and smith who are both bellews mates doesn't give much genuine perspective.
I think sky need someone like ed to be more of a max Kellerman figure. Remember him slating al Haymon and referencing a Gary Russell 8 rounder that should never have been so high up the bill.

It's a joke if he's gone. The only one who speaks his mind.
Re: Glen McCrory
When you work for someone else you're not allowed to speak your mind. Sad Truth.
Re: Glen McCrory
how does Jimm Watt still have a job, i think they should push Jamie Moore and some of the other recently retired boxers.
Re: Glen McCrory
He was pissed at Froch-Groves 2 and I imagine was warned for it, he looked like he was pissed up again on Saturday. If so deservedly got the boot. Showing himself up retweeting loads of stick at Adam Smith

I like Jamie, both personally and as a pundit, BUT I do have an issue with recently retired or active boxers being pundits.Rogers21 wrote:how does Jimm Watt still have a job, i think they should push Jamie Moore and some of the other recently retired boxers.
They are often mates and/or know the boxers they are critiquing and therefore are hesitant to call a spade a spade and sugar-coat their opinions. I’ve the same issue with football pundits.
McCrory falls into that nice category of being involved but still being “arms distance” from the boxers.
Pretty disappointed with this move and the continued sterilization of the punditry staff on SKY.

I'd agree with that totally, slapbangwhallop wrote:I like Jamie, both personally and as a pundit, BUT I do have an issue with recently retired or active boxers being pundits.Rogers21 wrote:how does Jimm Watt still have a job, i think they should push Jamie Moore and some of the other recently retired boxers.

Having current boxers (always Matchroom of course) as pundits just aint on either Saturday was a jok they may aswell have got 2 blokes out of Bellews block of tickets as pundits (Froch and Smith) and thats coming from a Bellew fan.Current boxers are also more likely to be always pushing their own agenda people like Glen are enough removed to still know enough of whats going on around the scene but not have any sort of agenda.
Is Ed Robinson the only Sky employee who actually does watch boxing regularly now then? You can just tell the others have no interest or knowledge in the scene at all unless its relating to s Sky show.

Fair point, especially given Moore is heavily involved in training these days.slapbangwhallop wrote:I like Jamie, both personally and as a pundit, BUT I do have an issue with recently retired or active boxers being pundits.Rogers21 wrote:how does Jimm Watt still have a job, i think they should push Jamie Moore and some of the other recently retired boxers.

Barrie Jones is the best pundit for me, always entertaining & speaks his mind, not afraid to say if a fight or fighter is crap. Obviously he lacks the polish that Sky value so much, but I've never met a boxing fan who cared about that.
Re: Glen McCrory
allegedly should get big Glenn on the books does a great job

The other week on ringside, Paul Smith was asked who we should watch out for in the Commonwealth Games - I thought "here we go" and he said Anthony Fowler, Sam Maxwell and Natasha Jonas !
Unless you have a strong independent character - Like a Gary Neville equivalent - you are going to get the same old shite.
Re: Glen McCrory
McCrory is increasingly looking like a spitting image puppet of his former self.

Haha one day we are talking how is it he has this job and next day he doesn't.

Shame about McCory being binned..I would imagine the Hearns would have had a word with big Barney Francis and Adam Smith about Glenn not towing the party line...
All that stuff with Froch's brother recently probably didnt help...I wonder if Sky would have the nuts to promote Spencer Fearon from the podcasts?? He talks sense and doesn't always cheer lead for Matchroom...

Re: Glen McCrory
Did Glenn really get fired from Sky?
Ps searching for this info, I found Glen did a bit of acting in the 90s
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1478612/
In his boxing he always showed heart and him winning against Lumumba was one of my early memories of world champ boxing

Re: Glen McCrory
Fearon has cultivated this image that he's the font of all boxing knowledge cos he can shoehorn an Archie Moore reference into a conversation. I'd like to do a quiz against him, I'd be quietly confident.
As a pundit....Christ no! That would be like nails down a blackboard. Would rather have Alex Arthur or Jamie Moore.

A shame if true. Unsurprsing though as he's not the sort of guy who'll suck cock for pay.
