Where did he go wrong? Why couldn't he hold down a tv contract with the BBC, ITV, Sky or Channel Five? Was he just unlucky or a poor promoter?

If you do a similar list for Hatton Promotions I think you'll find its a serious competitor for third slot.

Hatton and Mick imo we're incredibly unlucky with they're ITV and Sky contracts not being renewed.

Both put on some good shows and had top stables - was more politics than quality of return.

The sport would certainly be healthier with either Mick or Ricky being right in the frame with their own big stables of top-line champions and the ablity to compete financially with Warren and Hearn. But I am guessing that Channel 5 (despite being commendably loyal to the sport) are small payers and that has meant talent has eventually leaked away from Mick. He's almost become a 'feeder' promoter for Warren and Hearn.

We've discussed the issue before but the real game-changer would be someone like ITV or BT Sport to move into boxing and put their weight behind behind a Mick or Ricky. I think Saturday night boxing on ITV 4 would work an absolute treat and do some very decent numbers for them.... but someone over there does not fancy it, despite the fact that ITV used to turn the big fights into national events. BT Sport have gone all out for rugby and football, so I am supposing they won't have the budget to shake things up for a while?

Sometimes a smaller stable and fewer shows makes better financial sense.
