I gotta disagree with that . He knocked out a young skinny beardless Ruiz I wouldn't call that a prime version . I think the Ruiz with the beard and 15-20 pounds more outboxes Tua 119-109
Fair enough but it was a good win over what was still a reasonably good up and coming fighter.

I think he would have knocked out Herbie Hide to win the WBO title, but probably have lost it quickly being outpointed by Akinwande.

That wasn't his fault was it? Since chicken-Bowe didn't want a repeat of the '88 Olympic finals :salut:

Tua would have rolled out Hide in a round! .... but the Klitchskos were chasing that belt by 1999, and thats when Tua would have been outdone

In 1997 you could have had a peak Tua v a peak Akinwande for the WBO title. Henry with the UD I would think.

It would have been a decent fight. Reckon Vitali would have worn Tua down in 11.

I suppose your next thread will be about Tomas Molinares epic KO over Marlon Starling.

You're not the only one who saw that one either. I was 13 and watching that fight when that punch came just as the bell sounded, and no I wouldn't claim that Molinares "legitimately" won, though he was originally credited with the win.
I'm also not the only one that thinks you're a moron. :TU:

I'll give you one thing, Tua > Cooney!

Probably the same people who also think you're an asshole.

This whole thread is an asshole. Tua an all time great  . Some of the arguments for him being even close are ludicrous. There's at least 20 heavyweights who are not close to all time greats that would wipe the floor with him.

Saad is one of the most astute posters on the site. He's a grumpy bastard for sure but so am I when dealing with morons.

Tua was a great contender. If that makes any sense. He'd have been a dangerous foe in any era for any HW. He brought great power...a great chin...and some weaknesses too which made him a fan favourite.

On his game you had to be damned good to beat Tua.

All the late stoppages he managed against the run of play was great. I can only imagine that the opponents all got a bit complacent and tired counter-punching Tua all night. You needed skills and an engine to make it across the finish line against him. I think any given year you could find 6 heavies at least who could have turned that trick. He never would have beaten Oliver McCall for instance.

Tua with better connections would've been a heavyweight champion.

He got one shot at the title. Versus a prime Lennox Lewis.

Meanwhile how many average heavyweights were recycled again and again for title shots? How many men Tua KOd won belts, regained belts, challenged for belts?

Tua would've been better off with Don King. He could have got rid of John Ruiz for us, and been even more popular than he already is (and outside this thread generally is)

In truth there probably weren't too many champions he could have beaten. Chris Bryd was a bridge too far in 2001.

He beat a couple beltholders so it's obviously possible that he could have won one. That being said, he's clearly not a top 100 Heavyweight or all time great.

David Tua would have a very live chance against Dempsey, Marciano, Walcott, Patterson, Johannson, and Norton by my reconning.
