Eubank jnr needs to step up bad!

Post by righthook »

I have liked what iv seen of him so far and again yesterday another great performance but its the same old 5hit after every fight.

Its time to step up but this is a business, then his dad comes in saying he is the best fighter on the planet.

If he is as good as he and his father makes out why not step up? he has had 17 fights now and he should be mixing it up with far better opponents. He is not learning anything from the likes of last nights opponent.

Its impossible to gauge how good he is with the level of opponents hes had but if he doesnt step up next fight then for me there must be a reason he isnt.

I think billy jo k.o.s him in 6 but it will be interesting to see how good he really is .

He fights at far too short a notice. That's the kind of thing you do in your first 10 fights or so, assuming you are a prospect. He needs to sort a date that is 10+ weeks away and sort an opponent out who has that kind of notice.

I wonder if HE actually fights at short notice or whether he is given a date weeks in advance and opponents are called at short notice.

As for Eubank stepping up, it should have happened 6 fights back at the latest.

I think him v's Saunders would be a good fight, I actually like Jnr but agree he needs to step up the level of opposition, looked good on Saturday albeit against someone he should have looked good against.

Jury's still out I guess but I will be following his progress with interest.

(His Dad saying he is the best on the planet is a tad far fetched like)

In his defense the original opponent for Saturday (Jez Wilson) would have been a good test and was given plenty of notice. Unfortunately, he was refused by the board on medical grounds allegedly due to the injuries he suffered in his last fight.

Massively agree though he really needs a step up in class.

100% needs a step up. Because of his attitude/confidence, I cannot see him buckling under the pressure when he does eventually step up. However, who knows whether his ability will step up as the opposition does or does he just look good against journeymen...

Well i think we can all agree that he's had his fill of Latvians and journeymen and he's improving fast it looks but he def needs to step it up now though

Wasnt Ryder's win over Wilson a British eliminator? Im sure Saunders will vacate that and his Commonwealth so a fight between John and Eubank Jr would be a great bit of matchmaking for one or both belts

So is Eubank Jnr campaigning at Middle or Super Middle - He's down on the Boxrec site as Super middle but no doubt he could make both comfortably.

I'd like to see Eubank against Adam Etches think that would be a good test then I'd like to see him against Ryder if he came through that :D

Indeed it is.
However it's been offered and offered and for whatever reason Eubank is not keen.
So to talk about him going straight for Saunders is just madness.

He should also do himself a favour and stop bringing his dad to the ring.

Granted, having Sr. there is part of the act, and creates some interest amongst the casuals. But daddy dearest is doing him no favours with all his theatrics. The last thing you need when you're trying to create a serious career for yourself is some bellend getting in the ring and posing between rounds, or chatting nonsense after the fight because it amuses the interviewers. Or at the very least, ask him to stop all the messing about and attention seeking. Eubank was a great boxer, but his days are behind him and his attention should be on his son, not him.

With all Eubank's messing about, he's running the risk of making his son look like a comedy act.

But according to his dad, he's going to be the best boxer in the world! And that's gospel because Sr. is "a former participant of the sport, and one of note"

I think we all know for sure that if he fought Saunders they wouldn't be piss arsing about in the corner saying nothing and just flicking out an imaginary jab to tell him what to do.

Not to position myself as chief official unofficial Boxrec psychologist (and thus deprive Datsue of his job), but studying Eubank Jr in his post-fight interview I could not help but notice how he covered his mouth every time he made a bold statement.

Paraphrasing here, but it was along the lines of 'I believe I'm the best' (covers mouth), 'I'll fight Saunders and any of my British rivals whenever they like' (covers mouth), 'I'll be British champion in three fights' (covers mouth). He didn't do it while making any of the more innocuous remarks, and was quite happy to sit back and let dad do the talking when the interviewer pushed him to commit to what he was saying.

It's arguably a telling habit. You could perhaps interpret it as Eubank Jr deep down does not really believe he can back up these big claims. Prospects who take on such an exaggerated hardman persona and talk such a wildly good game have a tendency to break when faced with their first big test.

His silly boasts remind me of Fury, who says the most outrageous things about dead greats and greying, fat 50-year old greats, but at press conferences in the presence of live, dangerous men (Haye, Ustinov) I've noticed he suddenly dons sunglasses and tends to sweat, tremble and behave erratically.

His record tally reads as follows:

218 wins 150 losses

That's not particularly good so far. His best win is perhaps Bradley Pryce on points.

You do wonder how much conviction he has in his abilities, don't you? You'd think a kid his age, trying to make his mark on the sport, would be embarrassed to have his dad there making such a tit out of himself.

Obviously, I'm not saying that a close relationship with one's parent should be considered a bad thing. But some of Eubank's claims about his son being the greatest of all time are so patently absurd, you'd think a person would feel a certain level of embarrassment having somebody saying them. The only reason I can see that Eubank Jr. doesn't look more embarrassed by his dad's antics is because he feels he needs him there doing his talking for him.

Having never met Chris Snr, I wonder whether his public persona is an act, or whether he is such a knob at home?

put the cocky sh1t straight in.

i could do with a laugh. :OhYes:

personally think he needs a set up fight before going in with saunders.

bit too much of a jump to go from journeyman level to a euro champ.

needs an inbetweener.

john ryder perhaps. :box:
