Evans not getting accreditation to fight in the games.

Don't know if this is due to a criminal conviction earlier on in year.

Since when has Ireland been entering a team? I understand Northern Ireland but Ireland is not part of the Commonwealth.

Above, Mike has his picks for gold and list Michael Conlan at 56 kgs and then when someone else says Evans won't be there, Mike says he likes Donnelly to win gold for Ireland which is why I asked my question.
Has Ireland ever competed in the Commonwealth Games? I'm not from Ireland but I would assume they do not compete. I'm not trying to get political about it but I just wanted to get clarification based on Mike's post.

I know mate but c'mon all the work the guy does on here and you jumped on him
For a simple mistake, knowing that Ireland was not in the commonwealth could you not
Assume he meant Northern Ireland

I apologize if it looked like I was jumping on Mike. I know and appreciate the great job Mike does on the amateur forum. I don't know if Michael Conlan or Stephen Donnelly come from the north or ROI but Mike listed them as from Ireland and Paddy Barnes from Northern Ireland so I was wondering if somehow Ireland was competing in the Commonwealth Games which I had never heard about and would have been quite surprised. Relations between Ireland and Great Britain have been improving in recent years so maybe.... Anyway, I was only looking for clarification. So now I'll assume Conlan and Donnelly come from the North.

Sorry about that Mike. Keep up the good work!

I'm pretty familiar with boxing in Ireland so thats why I wanted clarification on the CWG. Back in '83, I boxed in Belfast, Derry and Drogheda. I came back in '92 to be a R/J for US/Ireland duals at the national stadium in Dublin and Portlaoise. In '00 I hosted a team that was supposed to the Holy Family team from Belfast in Baltimore but Gerry Storey ended up bringing an all star Irish team including Kenny Egan from Dublin, Stephan and Alan Reynolds from Sligo and some other good Belfast boxers not from his club. I was a R/J at the world championships in Belfast in '01 and the world military championships in the Curragh in '02. I also coached a US university team against Dublin University (Trinity) in Dublin in '12.
