'Big Knockout Boxing'

I'd not heard of this until I read the article below (from the Guardian of all places!).

Takes place in a 'pit' rather than a ring, 2 minute rounds with smaller gloves, apparently Brian Vera & Gabriel Rosado are signed up to fight. Sounds pretty brutal & will probably result in a load of criticism aimed at fighting in general. But honestly? I would definitely watch it!

Wow that's a weird one. Not sure how I feel about it. Pro boxing has never been a 'sport' - more business and violence. Pro boxers suffer long term brain damage and live on average 10 years less than non boxers.

If pro boxing were about sport, it would be like amateur boxing. If there were bigger gloves, shorter rounds, head guards and quicker stoppages; pro boxing would have minimal fans. Pro Boxing is about courage, toughness, violence, drama and knockouts. It's not about or purely about skill.

This knockout boxing seems way more dangerous, but In terms of long term brain damage caused by 12 round fights, might be less dangerous.

I accept the hypocrisy and moral problems with being a boxing fan; though many just refuse to admit it and bizarrely gloss over its raw, violent nature. The bottom line is - most boxing fans want to see a conclusive knockout; which essentially means brain damage.

To me, I think that ultimately that the free will of the participants is the decider.

And also, I have to say - I would watch this with great interest. As long as people aren't being regularly killed (they won't be).... Bring it on

I watched it when it was going by Bare Knuckle Boxing, the gloves had a cut out which showed the knuckles, the skill level was very low.
