Henri Piet (ID 32222)

According to Boxrec Piet died 1915-05-04 from injures sustained in a bout with an unknown opponent in Paris. I have been unable to find anything about this bout in the French newspapers of the time. Could there perhaps be a different reason?

In La vie au grand air 1919-05-15 there is a picture of Piet with the text ”L'ancien champion de France Piet, qui est mort au champ d'honneur” which would indicate that he had died in a different kind of battle.

On different internet sites there is published a list of 425 French sportsmen who died in combat 1914-18. Henri Piet is among those listed as well as Carpentier's stable mate Robert Loesch (who fought Papin for the French lightweight title), Gaston Clément and Eugène Trickri. No exact dates of death are given. By the way, Piet's opponent Moisy is also mentioned. He must have died already in 1914 as he is also mentioned in the magazine Le Miroir 1914-11-15.

It might very well be. I have not seen any date mentioned anywhere else.

I found an item in French newspaper La Lanterne (1915-05-07) which might shed some light on when Henri Piet died.
Le boxeur Henri Piet, ex-champion de France des poids mi-moyens, a été tué au champs d'honneur. Il avait été cité à l'ordre du jour de l'Armée.
