He was distraught by the cut and was only starting to get hit more. He was also dropping his output and I would've been surprised if he won a decision had the fight continued. The 49-46 cards were generous to him as well, as I don't think he should've had more than a one point lead; perhaps I should say that I would've been surprised if he fairly won a decision, as it seems like the judges were giving him more credit than he deserved.

His body suggested he was about to do exactly what he did quit because of the cut. He ran for one round doesn't mean he was going to do it for the entire fight. He quit but I think we giving a shot campillo to much credit for something he didn't do. Williams just didn't know how to handle adversity. Campillo career his done he'll get to someone else in short order. This fight says much more about Williams than Campillo.

I'm sure William's corner felt great when their own fighter chose Atlas as the first guy to seek solace and support from.
Teddy's response started out a little slow. Apparently Williams' plea for understanding caught him somewhat off guard, but Atlas quickly got untracked and eventually gave a Lombardi-like post fight pep talk.

BTW, I'm sure most of you were on pins and needles all night waiting for Atlas' huge announcement.
I was hoping he would announce he wasn't returning next season as FNF colorman. What a bummer to learn that the big buildup was only to reveal that his daughter created an Instagram account for him.
I'm certain I'd be thrilled if I knew what Instagram is.

Thomas Williams Jr.'s dad - Thomas Williams Sr. - went to prison for taking dives in fights. He built up a decent pro record. Lost a couple fights. Realized he wasn't as good as the top-level guys. And then he just started taking money to go down in whatever round they wanted him to go down in. Or he'd quit in the corner, claiming some injury that didn't look bad but prevented him from continuing.

I'd only seen his son fight once before. When someone said they were father and son, I said if he's anything like his dad, he'll look good for a couple of rounds and then just quit.

In the first fight I saw, he won. And I thought maybe he is different from his dad. Friday night, as soon as he got hurt, he stopped trying to win. I knew it wouldn't last the distance. The doctor wasn't even interested in stopping it. He asked the fighter how he felt, and he kind of winced and showed no inclination that he wanted to continue. Then he immediately ran over to Atlas to say he was sorry or something.

He's done as a contender. If you see him in the future, he'll start strong, then fade by the middle rounds and quit. The pattern is set. Just like his dad. Sounds harsh. But go back and watch some of his dad's fights.

I'm just surprised more people didn't bring up his father's past when "hyping" him. Seems like Williams wasn't a guy you wanted to hop on board with so quickly considering his dad was notorious for fixing boxing matches (and even went to prison for it).
