Yeah, and what's wrong with this? Kovalev himself said GGG hits like a a sledgehammer in his interview - http://kovalboxer.com/en/interview/text/42--q-q.htmlcrusader wrote:GGG's current trainer?
Re: BHop vs Kovalev Discussion
He's a member of GGG's team so I'm skeptical that what he says is true and not crafted to reflect positively on his fighter. It's very easy to make stuff up about sparring when the are no recordings.
Not to say Kovalev didn't get floored, but I don't think it should be treated as a given.

Re: BHop vs Kovalev Discussion
This is one of those fights fans want to see but just rarely gets made. I can't wait for it. I do expect kovalev to win comfortably but i'm dying to see what hopkins' plan is for the fight and whether he can frustrate kov enough to make it interesting.
Re: BHop vs Kovalev Discussion
Kova wasn't knocked down by Caparello. He just stumbled. His chin is in fact not made from iron, but Hopkins doesn't have enough power to use that. Bhop will at best floor Kovalev once without hurting him. With Bernard's extremely low work rate, even if Sergey doesn't hurt him, he will still will win a wide point decision. Most likely, Kovalev will KO Bhop though.Boxing Writer wrote:I agree 100%. Some people think Kovalev's biggest weakness is his chin since he was knocked down by Darnell Boone and now by feather-fisted Blake Caparello, was knocked out by Abbos Atoev in the amateurs and was knocked down (with headgear on) by Gennady Golovkin in sparring. But I'm 100% sure Kovalev's style, not his chin, is the reason why Hopkins wants to fight him. Bernard definitely sees some weaknesses in his style, but I'm not sure he can exploit them at 50. 5-6 years ago I would definitely bet on Hopkins to school Kovalev, but now Kovalev has a good chance to beat him. Still, people who give Hopkins zero chances in this fight, can be surprised on November 8hulkmaniac wrote:BHop chose this fight for a reason, he sees weaknesses he can exploit. Re: BHop vs Kovalev Discussion
Kovalev was hit by a low blow, he stepped back and Blake rushed in and stepped on his foot with a punch, that was no knockdown at all and the inept ref seen different.

Most likely scenario is Kovalev wins a decision. For me. Through sheer workrate and hard shots landed.

I'd agree with that scenario. Hopkins has a great chin and is very crafty. Kovalev has scary power though. A knockout would not surprise me.diddy wrote:Most likely scenario is Kovalev wins a decision. For me. Through sheer workrate and hard shots landed.

Hopkins should win in an unimpressive fashion. I am tired of hearing how amazing Hopkins is at his age. He fights like a 60 year old. He is negative to the core. People with skill beat Hopkins and always have, not even great skills as Hopkins lost twice to Jermain Taylor
Calzaghe beat him on effort and almost made him quit. Dawson made him quit. Kovelev, as exciting as he is, is a basic, basic fighter. Hopkins has destroyed guys like this his whole career. My prediction is a completely eye glazing SD win by Hopkins. Power is useless if you can't land it. Kovelev isn't good at all. He is powerful, exciting, and explosive , but basic and crude. Hopkins will hold disengage and disrupt to a decision that we will all cheer will be over. Hopefully, Kovelev lands and knocks the disgraceful Hopkins cold, but I doubt it.

I hope Kovalev will knock Bernard out as quickly as possible.. almost all of Hopkin's recent fights were completely boring as shit for me to watch...

Ho Hum.
Another big puncher that everyone is orgasmic about and just another guy that the old man will humiliate and expose as the amateur he really is.
Haven't many of you counted out Hopkins before and then been amazed when he performed "miracle" after "miracle?"
At this point it should be obvious that speed and movement will trouble the nearly 50-year-old Hopkins. Kovalev has neither. He has nothing that Hopkins hasn't seen before in his quarter-century long career.
It will be just another routine night for the legend as he schools Kovalev, and sends him packing back to Russia with a bruised face and ego.

I was just about to post that. I don't want to see this fight go on long and Hopkins take a load of sledgehammer blows, I see a very real risk of Hopkins getting badly hurt. I hope Kovalev catches him clean early and saves B Hop from himself.

I kinda feel this way, except for the doubt of Hopkins' age and the fact that he exchanged a little too much against Pascal and got hurt.SenorPipino wrote:Ho Hum.

However, I think the emotions of fight fans usually ruin things and this is another example. Kovalev is loved right now and Hopkins is always hated, so I guess it's a forgone conclusion that Kovalev will win convincingly. The funny thing is that it's always the same "Hopkins will lose" people. They have been wrong SO MANY TIMES before. But will still trot out with so much pride in their prediction if Hopkins were to lose. I guess it's easy to forget the 10 times you've been wrong before when you finally get one right.
Me ... I'm going to go with Hopkins, Decision, Wide. But then again, my PTBF picks have been shit this year.

When was the last time Hopkins faced somebody like Kovalev -- a smart boxer with a very good amateur background, great timing, work rate and huge power ?SenorPipino wrote:Ho Hum.

Hopkins has faced and beaten down a generation of middleweights, super middles, and light heavies.Take away the Russian's power and we wouldn't even be debating this fight. What else does he bring to the table?ikorolev wrote:When was the last time Hopkins faced somebody like Kovalev -- a smart boxer with a very good amateur background, great timing, work rate and huge power ?SenorPipino wrote:Ho Hum.

But power doesn't faze extraordinary fighters who are ring genius'.
For a reminder, see aging Ali vs. Foreman in Zaire.

If I labeled Canelo "the Mexican," would that strike you as a slur or offensive?
Just a descriptive adjective, amigo.
Some of you guys can be soooooooo sensitive. Stunning, coming from boxing fans.
