Bit of a shock - but Frankie always looked weak bodies as a pro.

I hope he gets a proper nutritionist and strength training now.

Lol yeh sad thing to have to be saying - that it took a defeat and being 28 years old before something might get done about it.

There's no issue with his strength, he was able to throw Bundu around pretty easily at times, the lack of punch power is the big problem.

Arnie took him too far away from his amateur style and he started to neglect a lot of what he did well, he's now gone too far the other way. He needs to get down to light welter and start coming forward more often, sitting down on his shots and looking to hurt his opponent. He's reached a level where he can't afford to give away ground as much as he does, he has the ability to sit in the pocket, make the opponent miss, counter, then spin away. Currently he throws 1 or 2 tippy tap punches, backs off, backs off, then spins away. And instead of throwing 1s and 2s, he needs to throw in combinations to discourage the other fighter.

bundu certainly looked the stronger guy to me, and i wouldnt say gavin was throwing bundu around, he used good footwork to spin and turn bundu but at no point in the fight did he physically push bundu around.
and when fighters spit there dummies out and go storming of without doing there interviews afterwards does my head in, great fight, close fight bundu, showed that he is a classy guy unfortunately gavin showed he's not. what was he said smoked liver with a touch of bundu hot sauce, hehe.

If you look at the bodies of modern boxers, MMA fighters and even the top amateurs in commonwealth games - their bodies are those of athletes .

Proper nutrition and strength training has really modernized the sport and Frankie's body just looks like a 14 year old.

Most of the time a fighter widely hyped to get to the top is lauded for a reason
Not sure what happened with this one though.

Bundu will be dealt with comfortably by the top guys in this division too.

I agree about Bundu but I don't think Frankie was widely hyped to become a top fighter; it seemed more like a noticeable minority doing that.

To be fair to that minority he did look the dogs baleros in the amateurs. Soon as he turned pro you could see frankie wasn't going to be world class. Was it down to mentality and lack of real drive? The fundamental skills were there, you're no mug if you win gold at world championships - harder to win than olympics

Hmmm. Hell of a lot of expectation for him on this forum, definitely out of proportional to his ability and prospects.

Yep agree with that, he seems to have a fairly small but extremely fanatical group of fans who really blow his trumpet on here. Good amateur does not necessarily make a top pro, that's all that's happened here. It's a whole new level of dedication and a different style of boxing, I don't think he has ever truly adapted to either of those things.

There's no chance of him doing light welter, however if somebody is a fulltime professional they should have a healthy diet out of camp & really live the life if they want to hit the heights. Gavin has the skill & will but sometimes it's not enough if you can't make the sacrifices.i hope he fulfills his potential & think he can

Do you judge his 'potential' from his amateur days though?

Firstly Bundu was stronger then Gavin, Bundu was thrown to the floor because of balance and Gavin's footwork, not strength, in fact when Bundu had Frankie trapped on the ropes, he could not force his way out sometimes, however I do agree with your Arnie comment, Gavin never used to get hit as an Amateur, Arnie tried to make him more aggressive, so he got hit more, his only improvement was his body punching, but it opened him up more, Gavin is not an " in the pocket fighter " at all, but an in an out of range fighter, every body thinks they know about boxing and they all say the same basic things "sit down on your punches " Gavin is a hit and move fighter and he does that better then most, when he sits down on his punches, he gets hit himself, what he needs to counter that with, is to be able to cross up inside and in the pocket and use upper body movement, including head movement, instead of a standard guard, which don't work for him, he needs to stop going back in straight lines and hold the centre, I think this will make Gavin a more complete fighter and he will be able to throw with his opponents, slipping his opponent and landing, that will improve the power.

The key thing that will improve his power will be developing some man-strength at the weight. He looks small and certainly has never had that ripped appearance, always looks like he's carrying a bit of body fat.

The photo at the top of that article, look at how ripped Bundu is for 39 years old, I've never seen Frankie look anything near that, Frankie body-wise looks to have a small chest and quite small biceps and generally a small frame for that weight. He's one of those boxers who you look at and just aren't sure where the weight is.

Was a good fight, close enough but the general concenus in the venue was that Bundu had done enough. Great atmosphere

Anyone know what went on at ringside during the fight? Looked like a fairly sinister incident that left someone being attented to by a paramedic for most of the mid rounds...
