Bob Arum strikes again.
Cotto VS Lee is pure BS. The least I'd rather see is Cotto VS Quillin. However, Bob is Bob, and he is still the undisputed king of shoveling shit on HBO and the public.
Oh, I forgot, Schaeffer is the worst because he might have screwed Oscar ... because it's very important to everyone here that Oscar gets what he wants ... screw making good fights ... I hate anyone who takes money from the millionaire Golden Boy ... boxing fans ...

It could be an interesting fight. I am not 100% sure that Cotto wins.

Re: Cotto vs Lee ???
Who did Cotto beat in the last few years who was better than Lee ? The version of Martinez he fought would also lose to Lee.
Re: Cotto vs Lee ???
I think this is one reason why people shouldn't worship lineal titles.

Well from a marketing standpoint I get it, you wanna fight Saul on a Mexican holiday to maximize the profits for everyone involved & even maximize the excitement for the fans & you probably don't wanna put Miguel in deep waters til you get the fight with Saul over. As a boxing fan I know Andy isn't in the top 10 guys I'd like to see fight Miguel right now. That said I do usually find Andy Lee a fun fighter to watch even if I think he's of limited ability at this level.

People can try & dress it up any way they want, it's a dreadful fight.

Re: Cotto vs Lee ???
The promotion will dress it up, I think some fans, myself included, just see it for what it is, a stay busy fight while Miguel lines up Saul for Cinco de Mayo 2015.GooalaShooola wrote:People can try & dress it up any way they want, it's a dreadful fight.
Re: Cotto vs Lee ???
Miguel could fight some kind of Salka for a stay busy fight. Lee is a big guy who still needs to be beaten, and you can get KO'd if you are not careful like Lee's previous opponent.ReggieDiggs wrote:The promotion will dress it up, I think some fans, myself included, just see it for what it is, a stay busy fight while Miguel lines up Saul for Cinco de Mayo 2015.GooalaShooola wrote:People can try & dress it up any way they want, it's a dreadful fight.
Re: Cotto vs Lee ???
C'mon now. When word leaked it would not be a PPV fight, did folks here really think it was going to be against a big name opponent? The writing is on the wall. May 5th weekend 2015 against Canelo, will not be jeopardized.

Yea I guess calling it a stay busy fight isn't quite giving it justice since Andy isn't that low on the totem poll but that's what it feels like.ikorolev wrote:Miguel could fight some kind of Salka for a stay busy fight. People act like the "lineal title" is some magical birthright that always falls on the best fighter in the division.
If you think about it, Cotto doesn't deserve to be the lineal champion. There are like 5 other real MIDDLEWEIGHTS who deserved the shot more than he did. What if Lee wins and never fights GGG, Quillin or any other fighter at 160. Does Lee's reign at 160 mean more than GGG's?
I attribute this folly of thought to our wonderful boxing analyst and commentators. Great job Max!!!

I think the average boxing fan doesnt even pay attention to lineal bs let alone consider it magical.BAD INTENTIONS wrote:People act like the "lineal title" is some magical birthright that always falls on the best fighter in the division.

You seem the one a bit confused about lineal titles. In the main those that understand lineal titles said Cotto won the lineal 160 title, but GGG is still the man at 160.BAD INTENTIONS wrote: Exactly!

Are you seriously implying that GB is any better than TR in terms of putting on non-competitive showcase matchups? This weekend's Showtime card (promoted by GB) is possibly the least competitive card to be televised by a major network in a decade.BAD INTENTIONS wrote:Bob Arum strikes again.

Re: Cotto vs Lee ???
I think Lee has been far off form for a while but as he has rebuilt fairly quietly, and has just about won (Horta) and found the right punch (Jackson) he is still considered a contender. Apart from beating a couple low level guys easily he hasn't impressed but for 1 second of his most recent fight, he struggled with inexperienced Fitzgerald even. I think Cotto would dominate and Lee wouldn't be able to come back again. But I hope Lee gets a good payday before he loses to a so called 'banana skin' which I think is very likely if he goes down that route to get a shot.

Re: Cotto vs Lee ???
If it were at the full 160lb limit, Lee could come in at 170lb and be much the bigger man - he's already got 7 inches in height on Miguel as well as a significant reach advantage. Whether he could make use of those advantages is another matter...
I think this is a good fight myself. Cotto deserves to be favourite, but a Lee victory wouldn't shock me.
