6 Heavyweight that need to retire.

Post by vovazilvova »

There are 6 heavyweight fighters that I think should retire because of age and a high risk of getting seriously hurt if continue competing with younger stronger heavyweights.

01. Tomasz Adamek - Age (37) not so old but he has 52 fights in which he has been hit a lot especially the Klitschko fight.
02. Tony Thompson - Age (42) has 44 fights, 2 beatings from W. Klitschko took a beating from David Price in 2nd fight before knocking price out at 41 years old.
03. Antonio Tarver - Age (45) has no future in Heavyweight division, if he takes a fight for good money from serious puncher can get really hurt.
04. Fres Oquendo - Age (41) 45 fights, has no future in boxing at this age except to keep on getting close fights and hurt for no good reason but money.
05. Kali Meehan - Age (44) made some money in super 8 Tournament, no future in big fights, no need to get hurt at this age.
06. Brian Minto - Age (39) lots of though fights, has taken too many hard punches through out his career, will be nothing but step up for younger fighters.

There is better ways for these guys to make money (if they haven't enough) then by getting hurt in boxing.

I doubt some of them do have better options to make money.

There has to be a point where you draw a line under that, when fighting on risks serious injury.

when a man can barely speak and he is getting paid a pittance to go in to the ring to take further punishment, the fact that he has no other income source ceases to be a viable explanation for me

Watching James Toney in prize fighter was one of the low points in my time watching professional boxing

agree, Lamon Brewster was not even that old but took unnecessary beating from Robert Helenius and that did not end up good for him.

yes Matt Skelton fighting Anthony Joshua was a bad idea, good thing he didn't get really hurt but fighting puncher like Joshua was a bad idea

He was beyond awful. He clearly lost to a guy with 3-2 record who hadn't won since 2007 and lost his last 2 fights to the opponents with 8-9-1 (LKO1) and 0-10-2 (L4) records.

I guess its only not dangerous when Maskaev is fighting Williams, because then they just walk around the ring all 10 rounds and one get a decision win.

I have no idea why Danny Williams is still boxing.

He should retire immediately.

There are loads of them but Audley Harrison doesn't need any more punishment.

For me it's less about the age, but more about the mileage on their body clocks and how they are still performing. The only one on your original list I strongly agree with is Adamek, who is clearly past his best and has already achieved a lot and surely, earnt a good amount of money. Not to mention that's he's a small heavyweight who no longer has the necessary skills to avoid punishment from the bigger, stronger men in the division.

Agree 100% on Williams, Toney, McCall, Rahman, Maskaev and Harrison.

Add in Monte Barrett - that dude needs to stay retired. It's less that he's awful and more that his brain has taken more than enough beatings for one lifetime.

Anthony Nansen is a kick boxing champ here in NZ and the guy he lost to Junior Iakopo is much better than his record suggests.
