Incorrect. You might as well have said that if Wlad fought and beat the undefeated version of Seth Mitchell or David Price, then that would've been his career best win. The fact is, Mitchell and Price were both overrated garbage and just hadn't been found out yet. If their scalps were on Wlad's resume, they would be worthless after we found out that Mitchell and Price were frauds. Wilder has done nothing to prove that he isn't a Mitchell or Price who just hasn't been exposed yet. That's precisely why he needs to prove that he's not an overhyped fraud, if he isn't, which he may be, because he has done nothing to prove that he hasn't.Kaaspeer wrote:As for people who say "he should prove himself before someone fights him!". Re: What I hate about Wilder...
But Wilder is only a win over an undefeated Muhammad Ali away from equaling the accomplishments of Joe Frazier, so he must have fought a lot of good fighters already, eh OP?
We will need to see more from Wilder besides long right hands and wild flurries to know if he has the goods. He hasn't shown a lot of dimensions yet and he looks in danger when he pulls back with his head up high. He could be another Michael Grant, as some have suggested before, but hopefully he has a better career (he doesn't have to worry about Lewis at least). He does have some great assets in his height, reach and awesome power. It's also good sign that he seems intent on utilizing his distance and has a trainer in Mark Breland who had a style that will suit Wilder's talents well.

Until a fighter holds a title belt picking and choosing their opponents is up to the management and promoters. In Wilders case he was young when he won the Bronze medal and he's still considered young in boxing. People want to rush a fighters development by putting them with the best early on but look at David Price and now I feel Anthony Joshua is going to be in the same boat as Price with him being rushed.

Re: What I hate about Wilder...
I think Wilder's power is legit, so he has a puncher chance against anybody. I would favor Pulev to beat him, but Povetkin has always had a huge problems with tall guys since his amateurs days. He was beaten by very limited Oleksiy Mazikin in 2001, he lost to Alexei Lezin in 2003 when Lezin was completely shot. He went life and death with Pedro Carrion a couple of times. And, of course, he was dominated from pillar to post against Wlad in the pros. Tall fighters will always give big problems for Povetkindempseyfire wrote:Povetkin and Pulev would kick Wilder's a$$.Kaaspeer wrote:The guy is big, black, strong, American, 100% KO streak, he got the traits of an ATG, but it's as if he is scared to fight anyone with a pulse and it is as if all the other boxers in the division are scared to fight him, even though he's also scared of them, why does no one try and make a fight with him? And why doesn't he himself try to make a fight with someone? The guy is so annoying, I could imagine him smashing an aging Wladimir, but Wilder won't take that fight and Wladimir won't take that, both are scared.
As for people who say "he should prove himself before someone fights him!". No, he shouldn't, beating Wilder is a far more convincing win for Wladimir than beating fat Europeans like Povetkin and Pulev all the time, why not fight a big and powerful American with a 30-0 100% KO record, that would certainly look more impressive than any other option at heavyweight and it would be the biggest money fight in heavyweight possible. Wrong or right, look at polls, Wilder is widely regarded as Wladimir's biggest threat, so this fight would please the fans.
But Wilder got problems with his self esteem and the other boxers in the division don't want to be the first elite guy to risk a wrong move against this intimidating power boxer...

This is why Wilder is matched soft - because his chin is made of 100 year old fine china. See below...

You can always find a bad example in the amateurs. Floyd lost in the amateurs, Vitali got knocked out in the amateurs, Ali got knocked out twice in the amateurs, etc... So are Floyd, Ali and Vitali bad fighters?johnswan1 wrote:This is why Wilder is matched soft - because his chin is made of 100 year old fine china. See below...

He's pushing 30, has 31 fights as a professional...how long does the "he's young and inexperienced" card last for Wilder?dwise26 wrote:Until a fighter holds a title belt picking and choosing their opponents is up to the management and promoters. Price chin/cardio is what let him down. The same thing that let down a young Wlad. Learn that young and you can fix it. Learn that old and you turn into a journeyman.

Wilder is good. He has the punch to stop anyone.
Opponents want proper money to fight him. People will be queueing up once he has a belt.

People also underrate the fact that he KOed Malik Scott in one round. Malik Scott had defeated Vyacheslav Glaskow and fought a good fight against Chisora until a controversial stoppage, otherwise he was undefeated.Ezzard wrote:Wilder is good. He has the punch to stop anyone.

Re: What I hate about Wilder...
True BUT Wilder not only was KOed he was only KOed by the right hand, keeping his left low is a trait that he was since showed in sparring and in the pro ring against lesser opponents, he is a sucker for that right hand and it is only a matter of time.Kaaspeer wrote:You can always find a bad example in the amateurs. Dustin Nichols floored Wilder....it was a legit knock down at 45 seconds in. The ref is a damn joke for not calling it. Wilder is clowning the 400 pounder and then he gets put on his arse. No slip, just a 400 pounder with midget arms flooring Wilder.

This is why he is so shielded. Charlie Zelenoff also hit this fool, sent him flying, and he was saved by the ropes. So a 400 pounder and a 160 pounder have both floored Wilder. In the pro ring the 2 guys who have floored Wilder easily have a combined record of 4 wins and 10 losses and neither of them ever beat another boxer with a pro win.
So many are so high on Wilder when he has been beaten around by the bottom of the barrel in boxing. This guy makes Seth Mitchell's chicken dancing legs look like Elephant legs. His drum sticks are like string beans. KFC wouldn't even waste any original recipe on those tooth picks.

Re: What I hate about Wilder...
well that might have been a legit KD but it was more off balance than anything. he just didn't take that guy seriously. wilder is good fighter but I still don't think he is matched well. at some point he won't be able to blow out an opponent inside 3 rounds and when then happens it better does not happen for the first time against a good opponent.Kronkpride wrote:Dustin Nichols floored Wilder....it was a legit knock down at 45 seconds in. In that video with Nichols I almost spit out my coffee when Nichols was leaning against the ropes and the camera showed the people in the ringside audience running out of the way, I haven't seen people move that fast in a long time.

You all must not have seen Wilder's video with Charlie Z. The guy is the real deal.
Re: What I hate about Wilder...
Why didn't Wilder want to increase the quality of his opposition during the passage of time like a normal boxer and instead of that he fought bums all the time and now has "incredible" 31 knockouts for 31 fights?
That's what you should ask yourself.
I don't know who is guilty of his situation right now - he or his management - but definitely there is no sporting argument that he should fight with Wladimir Klitschko because he hasn't proved that he deserves it.

Re: What I hate about Wilder...
Saying that Wilder has been fighting nothing but bums is quite harsh, and untrue. I guess you could say that his opposition has been a bit soft compared to others at his stage in their careers. But the opposition has been increasing. His management is bringing him up as they see fit best for his career. It doesn't necessarily mean that he is going to get smashed once he goes for a title. It, in all likelihood, means that he needs some honing and incremental increases in opposition to get him where he needs to be. He is quite promising. And the criticism that someone in his position is going to receive is expected of his detractors.
