Deontay Wilder vs. Rocky Marciano

Post by Kaaspeer »

One clean hit on Wilder's chin from Marciano, and it's gameover for the Bronze Bomber.
But Marciano is a small cruiserweight boxer, Wilder is a BIG heavyweight boxer.
Marciano has never faced someone that much bigger than himself.
It would be hard for the tough but unskilled Marciano to blast through Wilder's long-armed assaults.
Marciano would get hurt in the proces. But there is a chance that he could get to Wilder's weak chin.
Have you ever tried fighting someone half your size? It's fun and easy.

When Jim Jones offered the kool-aid you should of been first in line.

I'd still favor Rocky today.

Sorry brother, Wilder would back out before we got there. He's currently chasing a fight with Dan Rafael anyway.

I think if we do some Weekend at Bernies shit to Rocky's body & make it appear like he said something about Deontay's daughter it'll be on.

The poll seems to favor Wilder, you guys are writing him off too easily.

Be a bit realistic. Rigondeaux may be more skilled than Arthur Abraham, but Arthur Abraham would beat him with pure size. It's the same case here, Wilder would be far too big for Marciano.

No, Wladimir would beat Valuev, but Wladimir is not 50% Valuev's size like Marciano is 50% Wilder's size.

I did not know Wilder was just under twelve feet tall and weighed 370...

Who knows. Of course everyone is going to say Marciano. But the jury is out on Wilder right now. In a few years this may become a legitimate poll.

In one corner, you have a battle tested all time great who has gone 15 rounds and fought in wars with other hall of famers... In the other, you have young stallion with olympic pedigree, all the physical advantages imaginable and an unproven yet very busy and active record. So who do you pick? Do you go with the guy who has seen more action in the field, or the guy with all the tools, albeit ones that are still wrapped in the package and sitting on the hardware shelf? Tough one to call for me. Marciano would have to work the body for most of the evening, because wilder's height and reach will make flush shots to the chin difficult. And some of those SuzieQ's would lose a bit of their sting from being over extended. Deontay hasn't KO'd anyone of note, but he's at least proven that he is a fast starter and Rock has gotten off to a slow start on more than a few occasions in his career. Deontay's stamina is still a question mark. We don't know what he'd be capable of doing if this fight went 7, 8, 9, 10 rounds etc... I guess Rocky's best bet is to work the body, slip the jab, and stay alive long enough to lure Wilder into deep water. But if the Bronze charges out of the gate and effectively uses his size, power and fast starting ability to score multiple knockdowns early, it could make for a short night.

I'd suggest we let Wilder at least fight a top ten from 2014 before we say he could beat a top ten all time

Wilders chin is non-existent, I'm sure of it. He is a spectacular knock out waiting to happen.

I'm not sure of it but I think there's a good chance you're right. His history of being hurt, twig legs, and him being matched so softly and invariably kept away from punchers suggests to me that he's probably not very durable, not to mention that he can be very sloppy and leave himself wide open at times.

I've heard the same of Wlad at different stages of his career too. We'll see. If his chin is bad, Stiverne should be able to exploit it.

I think Wlad's chin is bad, but he's got the attributes to prevent people from hitting it with anything serious. I don't think Wilder is similarly capable, though time will tell.
