Ingemar J vs Corrie Sanders

Post by BoxBuzz »

......another "Corrie" thread. Not tryin to resurrect the viral influx we had a few months back.

Actually I was intrigued with the results of another Corrie thread, and wanted to sample opinion on this fight, and template against the other.

Who's Ingy? Presuming Johansson. Corrie by nuclear attack in the first round. Silly thread!

Well it's only rendered silly by you stepping in with your over developed gargantuan intellect and trumping all hypothesizing.

But if you didn't own your own copy of the Akashic Record, you would have to wing it like the rest of us.

And I purposely didn't peek at my copy. You have no sporting spirit.

I have more formalized the name so's to be less confusin'.

It's just a bit bizarre sorry. Although well done for the obscure match up.

It's not really that bizarre. A c grade champ who's a bit smaller versus an E or F grade contender who's bigger. Johannson's fitness and having some all round skills versus Corrie's size and raw power.

And when I read what a few were saying about Floyd not being able to compete with Corrie....I wondered if that same opinion would hold true with Ingemar.

Ingo has more of the intangibles, Corrie has way more of the tangibles, the flabby, jiggly, sweaty tangibles.

People just have no idea where Sanders peak was. It certainly wasn't the Wlad fight. Go right back to 1991 and him knocking the very dangerous Johnny DuPlooy silly, and you'll see the lean, mean version of Corrie. Ingo had a poor chin really. Brian London knocked him silly in the last round of his last fight. There we're a lot of knockdowns during his earlier years. Corrie would have minced him!

Sanders was not much bigger than Johansson . . look at him fighting around 210 earlier in his career and even then he was not cut or anything . .Ingo in shape about 200 but giving up some height.

I like Johansson here. His right hand was a bigger punch than Corrie's left and I think if Corrie tries to slug it out early he probably gets stopped early.

Wait a second here, first of you mean you should compare the best version of Sanders vs the Worst version of Johansson?
Also what lots of knockdowns do you mean in ingos early career? Pelegrini dropped him but i have never heard of any more, Ingo had 99 fights all together (amatuer and pro) and was koed twice both by Patterson i agree Ingo didnt have a great chin but the stats wouldnt sugest It was to poor either.

So what has sanders done to sugest that he would clobber Johansson so easely?

PC caddy just likes Corrie

I favor and would bet on the Swede myself. But the Corriemania on this forum has been entertaining. I think Sanders had a few lucky breaks, and always had a punchers chance...and he was a bit luckier than some other punchers who had similar chances. So I give him points on getting some of those good shots (which to his credit, were credible) IN when they counted most. But other than that, I've thought of Sanders as more of a golfer.

Ok...I'm sort of kidding....but not so's much as you'd notice.

It's hard to overlook Corrie's loses, but was Ingo ever hit as hard. Corrie would probably blast him the first 2 rounds. I just doubt the Swede would take it.

Who, even among all those bums he fought, did Sanders ever take out with one shot? Ingo's losses to Patterson were from deadly, precision placed shots that came from the heels. They would take Sanders' head off too.

As far as inventing knockdowns against Ingo, how about Sanders hitting the floor against non-punching Nate Tubbs, non-punching Art Weathers, he was even too big, fat and slow to get out of the way of the ponderous and musclebound Hasim Rahman. Worrying signs when meeting a man like Ingo who was adept at timing you with one single sneak right.

I'm just pointing out that Ingo also looked to have a bad chin against Floyd in their 2nd and 3rd fights. And also it is hard to pick a version of Corrie that wasn't coasting, that's why I'd plump for the DuPlooy version of 1991.

Patterson would have made Corrie's chin look weak too.

Ingo stopped far more durable guys than Sanders ever did, and more knockouts with one punch too. I have all of Corrie's fights on DVD . . he had heavy hands but had so many early stoppages because he'd blitz guys with his speed early (and coming from the southpaw stance helped too) . . his straight left was not in and of itself a knockout punch, whereas Ingo's right hand was.

Can anyone give me a fair and objective overview of how good Ingemar actually was?

Perhaps wrongly and lazily, I've always viewed him as a pretty basic, heavyweight with just a big bomb (and a playboy lifestyle) who got lucky with that banker shot against Patterson before Floyd effectively proved that Johansson was a league beneath him twice over.

But this thread made me check review Johansson's record and it really is much tidier than I thought it would be. I had forgotten that he'd stopped Cooper and I noted that he'd also turned the trick on Richardson, Bygraves and Erskine as well as points wins over London. In fact he beat all the top British fighters who faced him and also Eddie Machen.

Johansson seems to me to be a guy who paid his dues by being the European boss for a while and more often than not he got people out of there very effectively......would love to know a wee bit more about him and whether the one hit wonder tag is entirely fair.

Bodyshot......

what you just brought up is why I put up this "silly" thread.

For bias Americans....(and I can often fall in that category I suppose) the win over Machen OUGHT to get some attention.

And I sure don't think Corrie fairs well against Machen either.

Ingemar was no fluke in my opinion.....Corrie? well....the jury is still out on that one.
