Joe Mesi given all clear to fight again

Judge Douglas Herndon today ruled that the NSAC cannot put heavyweight Baby Joe Mesi on permanent medical suspension and must lift the suspension as his license has expired. Now Mesi is free to apply for a license in any state and with any commission as long as he falls under the rules of that commission. Mesi's managar Jack Mesi told Fightnews last week that if they win the case Joe will go to a warm weather site and begin training immediately. "We are still undefeated and look forward to fighting for the Championship of the world," said Jack Mesi.

That is crazy, if he was medically fine then I would welcome him back with open arms. I never thought of him as a worlds top ten fighter - but in hindsight he was definately good enough.

However, it sounds like he is only cleared via a loophole in the system. Let just hope the governing bodies do not relicence him.

Im sure someone will where the money is right, look at what happened with the UFC it was baned in most sights so they have it on Native American reservations where they make there own state laws, also where bowes comebacks have been

I am afraid Mesi will be killed in the ring.
One of these days he will fight a puncher, take a few head shots and give boxing yet another black eye. There will be renewed calls to ban boxing.

All respect to Mesi and his warrior heart. But he is an accident waiting to happen.

Quick question, and bear in mind I know nothing about the whole UFC/MMA thing: Isn't the UFC held in places like Vegas now? I'm sure I saw an event from there on Bravo recently. I know they had problems when it was first launched, when it was basically a free for all with no weight classes, but haven't they tightened up the rules and made it more acceptable these days?

Not really, he reason he was suspended was a subdural haematoma, or bleeding.bruising on the brain, vessels were reputedly torn, though this is disputed by the Mesi camp.

There is no current injury, it's the fact that he had a previous injury. In theory if there is no injury present at the time of the examination, they may be forced to license him, or face a court action for restriction of trade I should imagine.

What is the situation with the governing bodies will they rank Mesi as he was before or will he have to start all over again ???

Apparently current tests show him to be fine, at no more risk than any other boxer. There've always be plenty of medical "experts" saying there's nothing wrong with him....maybe they're right - really hope so.

The argument against, is that a fighter who has suffered a tear in the blood vessels in the brain, has weaker connective tissue, and is therefore susceptible to it happening again....whether that is true or not, I guess is a matter of medical debate.

I think he will not be ranked untill he does make a comeback, then he will probably get a low top ten rating with some of the governing bodies. All really will depend on who he fights when he is back. He would probably beat Ray Austin immediately on his return, Austin is highly ranked by the WBA.

Will probably be on the Basis of weather he looks the same fighter when he comes back give it two fights he should be ranked about 5 he will be fighting proper opponents
