Re: Shame on Showtime
Kovalev is a beast and can make even good fighters look horrible, Salka was a undersized bum coming in and everyone knew it.
Unlike Garcia Kovalev is calling out everyone... Im sure Garcia and Haymon will find another bum for his next fight

Actually, it can be worse and it is.Luckybattles wrote:cant be any worse than that bum Kovalev fought last week. Who is signing off on this garbage?
I know BoxRec rankings aren't perfect, but Salka was ranked 71 at lightweight while Caparello was 9th or 1th at LHW.

Al Haymon is destroying boxing and Teddy Atlas said it best last night, comon the guy is no boxing lover he is a business man who managed MC Hammer and we all know how his career turned out
Re: Shame on Showtime
Good thread and typical boxing and most boxers of the modern era. They don't want to fight each other they want to fight around each other. Garbage event. If you paid to go to the event you are a sucker!!

There's a fight on in Mexico later on that has 2 of the best in their division fighting each other...yet very few seem to be tuning in to it. Think that tells us a lot about boxing fans sadly.

also showtime and golden boy's fault.Impractical Poster wrote:Ok. Crappy card tonight. But Al doesn't have a history of this.greenmonkey wrote:Al Haymon is the New Don King, he will continue to match his fighters in easy fights..
people bought tickets and people watched it on tv, though, so as long as
that happens they'll think about doing it again. wondering if this has anything
to do with golden boy's need to put on cards just to keep things going.
hopefully this won't become a regular thing. garcia-peterson would be
a good showtime main event. porter-brook next week could be ok.

Mc Hammer earned in excess of 33 million dollars. It is in no way shape or form Haymons fault thatgreenmonkey wrote:Al Haymon is destroying boxing and Teddy Atlas said it best last night, comon the guy is no boxing lover he is a business man who managed MC Hammer and we all know how his career turned out
the dumbass hammer wasted his money including 15 million on a mansion.
Haymon helped him make money Hammer was just a freakin idiot
Re: Shame on Showtime
The bum Kovalev fought was from his own weight class, undefeated and top 10 according to boxrec. Some were saying that he is more skilled than Kovalev.Luckybattles wrote:cant be any worse than that bum Kovalev fought last week. Who is signing off on this garbage?
Salka is #71 AT LIGHTWEIGHT with 4 losses AND KO RATIO UNDER 1/6. The fight was a spit into fans' face.

Re: Shame on Showtime
I believe it was nothing more than to build up interest in a Garcia/Peterson bout. Some of you are acting as if this is how it's going to be now.
Re: Shame on Showtime
You can build interest and still fight more decent opponents.

Criticism and controversy
Al Haymon has been the subject of much criticism and controversy in the boxing world. Haymon is rarely seen and never interviewed. Most people find this to be very weird considering the power he has in the boxing world.
The Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act was designed to separate boxing promoters from boxing managers, but it is said that Haymon functions as both.[2]
While Haymon maximizes fighters' incomes, it is argued that he does so at the expense of a fighter's health and there have been accusations that he facilitates false records being submitted to boxing commissions.[2]
Haymon's influence has been seen as gaining fights for his fighters prime spots on HBO, but these fights are seen as less than quality match-ups and instead easy fights to expose his fighters and this influence has been questioned by Max Kellerman of HBO Sports.[5]
Notable Client list[edit]
Fighters who are currently or were previously represented by Haymon include:[1][2]
Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Adonis Stevenson
Amir Khan
Peter Quillin
Josesito Lopez
Erislandy Lara
Cristobal Arreola
Devon Alexander
Adrien Broner
Andre Berto
Danny Garcia
Austin Trout

Looks like it. If Haymon is managing most of the top 140 pounders, something like this is to be expected. Other than that, Haymon has not made a history of it. Some of you are like my wife... if I do one thing wrong, I then have done everything wrong.Boxing Prospect wrote:And he Broner/Matthysse card is he same?Impractical Poster wrote:I believe it was nothing more than to build up interest in a Garcia/Peterson bout. If he's going to feed crap to fans then at least have a special fight on the card somewhere.
Whilst I get the analogy about your and your wife, it's funny that these bouts are coming after DLH split from Schaefer...short term history but still a growing trend.

Re: Shame on Showtime
True. That split makes the stable of available fighters limited. But I'm sure the cards will not be consistently weak. I'm sure he is reluctant to put two of his guys in with eachother. He wants to get the most bang for the buck... so to speak. Thanks to guys like Mayweather, everyone involved is looking at the business side of the sport rather than what is best for the fans.Boxing Prospect wrote:
