Have I gone completely mad, or do the WBA actually have 3 Middleweight Champions at the moment?
If I understand this right, Golovkin is the "Super" Champion, Dmitry Chudinov has been Interim Champion for over a year, yet on Saturday, Daniel Jacobs won the "Regular" Championship, while Chudinov defended his belt in Russia.
Can anybody explain what is going on? I remember back in the late 80s, we scoffed at the WBO for bringing yet another belt into the Alphabet soup, but now these clowns have 3 different championship belts at the same weight!
It's beyond me. Perhaps I'm still living under a false assumption that Interim belts were to he used when the Champion was unable to defend his title. Is this all just about money? Sanctioning fees? Or is there actually a sensible answer behind this madness?

Just looked, they list him as a unified champion, so in theory they could add a regular champion and an in recess champion to have 5 in a division. Eurgh.

Imagine what it's going to look like in 10 years' time. They're going to have to start adding new letters. Then when they can't use any longer acronyms watch out for the numbers!
Can't wait for the first-ever WBAICB2 Champion of the Wooorrrld!

Jesus! It's scary, but true. I can't believe I'm sitting looking at this wishing for days when only had 4 World champions in each weight class!Riddick Blowe wrote:Imagine what it's going to look like in 10 years' time.
