Why not Thurman/Khan WBA "Regular" Title?
Why not put the WBA's stupidity to good use?
Right now, it's:
Champion: Floyd Mayweather
1. Keith Thurman
2. Marcos Maidana
3. Amir Khan
Of course the title won't mean anything, but it is a way to get guys to fight. I'm sure Al can get the WBA on board and make the fight. So what's stopping this obvious match from being made?

I would expect Khan to be steered towards a safer title fight then put him in with someone as dangerous as Thurman if Amir wins the belt,if Khan cant win a title in his next championship fight then he'll start being used as the opponent and have to take what oppurtunies he can get

If the fighters are down than I don't see why it couldn't happen. I could give a damn about the abc "regular" belt or whatever being up for grabs & idk how much it matters for the winner either as the ultimately goal is to fight Floyd & the winner is on the short list & its a really short list right now.
Re: Why not Thurman/Khan WBA "Regular" Title?
Khan knows he would probably get KO'd against Thurman, as does his team. When asked if he would fight Thurman, he just says he will fight whoever his team lines up for him. (Knowing they won't line Thurman up for him)
They will go for Joseito Lopez or Robert Guerrero or possibly Alexander next. Khan turned down Guerrero 3 times in the last year or two. Not sure why though, since he could beat Guerrero but get roughed up some in the process. Aside from Thurman and the winner of Porter/Brook, its the one I would like to see most. It also is one of the safest, and one that could get him the lottery ticket he thinks he deserves.

We all know khan is just trying to stay afloat until he can hit the mayweather sweepstakes. Im a big time Floyd fan, but I think its just pathetic that khan is even being considered. Although I will admit that its not as bad as danny Garcia fighting rod salka or pac man taking on chris algeri. Somehow shawn porter managed to get paulie malinaggi and devon alexander to get in the ring with him. Whoever is in charge in Thurmans camp needs to do the same thing.

Why not Thurman/Alexander? Both guys needing a fight. Both guys on the fringes of the division and needing a major win to put them back in the mix for big fights.

I think Thurman would beat him. Would possibly go the full 12 though as Devon has a solid beard.jujigatame wrote:Why not Thurman/Alexander? Both guys needing a fight. Both guys on the fringes of the division and needing a major win to put them back in the mix for big fights.

Although Khan could fight Thurman in the scenario that I outlined, it seems like he is heading towards Guerrero or Alexander.
I think whoever Khan doesn't fight draws Thurman.

I think it's a super interesting matchup. Thurman's never been in there with a quick boxer type, but Alexander has shown vulnerability to pressure fighters and tends to tire late.columbo wrote:I think Thurman would beat him. To Alexander's credit, he recently said he would fight Thurman, Khan, or Guerrero - whoever is available and wants to fight. Khan has to figure out who is the safest of all his potential opponents, then pick. I am guessing he will pick Guerrero, but it could be Alexander....for some reason Khan must be a little afraid of Guerrero, since he turned him down 3 times in the last 2 years. Style-wise I would think it would be a match he would jump on.
Re: Why not Thurman/Khan WBA "Regular" Title?
For one Khan himself is speaking of fighting Floyd when he has done nothing to deserve it and none of the other Promoters or the media has said anything about him not deserving the shot, they allow him to skip over Thurman.BAD INTENTIONS wrote:Why not put the WBA's stupidity to good use?

Realistically speaking Thurman himself has yet to do anything that says he deserves Floyd next, Porter is just begging to get a shot at Thurman but right now has his plate full with Brook. Hopefully Porter wins so we can see him vs Thurman with the winner getting Floyd but Khan should be made to fight Pacquiao (promotional issues aside) or even Porter before he can get Mayweather.
The problem is that now since Floyd is rematching Maidana none of the media or Promoters yet feel it is a requirement any longer for these guys to have to sweep the rankings clean/clean out the division before earning a shot at the Champion like it used to be in the old days.
Re: Why not Thurman/Khan WBA "Regular" Title?
If Porter has said that recently, it is something new, because he didn't want the fight at a few months ago. I am guessing they told him if he hopes to get a shot at Floyd, he had better not act like he is avoiding anyone on the way there. I doubt if Khan will fight Guerrero. He is one guy that could turn it into a brawl when the headlocks and shoving begin, and Khan doesn't hold and hit as well as Guerrero. Khan could beat Guerrero if able to stay outside though. I am guessing Alexander will be the guy. Safer fight for Khan.

Yes, but like I said, it is something new. A few months ago Porter and his team were not interested in a fight with Thurman.Brut wrote:Porter said "I'd fight One Time two times".Badhusker wrote:If Porter has said that recently, it is something new, because he didn't want the fight at a few months ago.
