Mike Weaver v. David Tua

Post by Woldemar »

Prime to prime.

Who would win in your opinions ?

For me Weaver would win by decision.

You just have to watch Weaver against DuPlooy to see his gas tank was suspect and his chin was no better than a number of B level fighters Tua caught up with. Tua looks good and wins in 3.

Weaver's career is littered with losses and not just when he was turning-up for the pay cheque as a veteran.

But the weird thing about Weaver is that he always seemed to bounce back with the occasional big-time win or an impressive performance which frequently cut against his own form guide. I am thinking the Weaver circa the 1981 vintage would have been proper handful for the Tuaman and it would have been a close run thing.

I know Weaver. He has told me how much he hated boxing. It was a way to make money
that's it.
He was a slow starter because it took him getting hit to want to throw back. His words not mine.
If Weaver needs to be hit in order to hit back,Tua is the wrong man to face.
I would predict a 1st or 2nd round knockout win for Tua.

Yeah I love watching old footage of Mike Weaver. He was always in great shape and fought his heart out. Beat some top flight guys too. But something tells me that a solid chinned puncher like Tua would be bad chemistry. Might have to go with Tua.

I don't honestly think that but I do think Tua is being ridiculously over rated . If we are talking Weaver on his best night vs Tua on his best night I'll take Weaver 10/10 times .

Not to mention that Tua could look awful at times. Sometimes he was aggressive, other times he wasn't much more than a punching bag. Certainly could see Tua winning, but more often than not Weaver would win.

Tua would KO him in a round, Weaver is tailor made for Tua.

Really ? What short fat one armed one dimensional fighter did Weaver struggle with in his prime ?

Weaver was chinny and a small heavyweight. How many short, fat, one dimensional fighters
did Ruiz lose to apart from Tua. Tua was a wrecking machine and would have made short
work of Weaver. Sorry. :TU:

PS: Tubbs, Witherspoon, Page, Pinklon Thomas would have schooled Tua - styles make fights.
