Isn't it "Nugaev" not "Nagaev"?
Shafikov probably wins a decision but Nugaev will make it competitive and has enough power to make it interesting, especially at 135.
There's a pretty solid support bout too. Jose Pedraza is an undefeated prospect (17-0) stepping up to a very tough opponent in Juan Carlos Martinez. Martinez has a journeyman record (20-14-1) and is probably most famous for getting blasted by Mikey Garcia, but he's a tough customer who's managed a couple of high-profile upsets (Bernabe Concepcion, Alejandro Perez) in recent years.

I like Shafikov here also. It's scheduled for 12 rounds, Shafikov has plenty of experience in the championship rounds. I think Nugaev will have to knock him out to win and Shafikov has a pretty sturdy chin.

Cant for the love of me understand why Shafikov can fight for the IBF LW title in one fight, lose then fight an eliminator for the same belt in the very next fight
Re: Rustam Nagaev vs Denis Shafikov ESPN
That's what the IBF does. They regularly order eliminators but they're terrible for reusing fighters.handsofstone wrote:Cant for the love of me understand why Shafikov can fight for the IBF LW title in one fight, lose then fight an eliminator for the same belt in the very next fight

Martinez quits on his stool after 6, his corner saying "he doesn't feel good". WTF?
Re: Rustam Nagaev vs Denis Shafikov ESPN
Good fight through 3.
Re: Rustam Nagaev vs Denis Shafikov ESPN
In round three Nugaev threw 158 and Shafikov threw 120 per CompuBox.

Nugaev is tough as nails. Shafikov walking away with it at the moment.
Re: Rustam Nagaev vs Denis Shafikov ESPN
Well, it was competitive early but turned into a beating. Shafikov looked sharp, though Nugaev isn't the toughest to hit.

Shafikov looked good and was entertaining to boot. I thought he stunk the joint out against Vazquez but maybe that was just Vazquez's ugly style.
Re: Rustam Nagaev vs Denis Shafikov ESPN

12 lightweight
Rustam Nugaev 27(17)-6-1
vs
Denis Shafikov 33(18)-1-1

Shafikov wins by TKO
Nugaev had to go to the body early to neutralise Shafikov's movement
He didn't which enable Shafikov to develop angles and display his superior technique

Re: Rustam Nagaev vs Denis Shafikov ESPN
Great fight to watch despite not being the most competitive,i gave every round to Shafikov but Nugaev just doing enough,(i:e-standing in front of Denis) to make it fun but the longer it went, the more Shafikov was beating Rustam up and the body shot that Nugaev took before the finish seemed to drain him,so it was good to see the ref save him from more punishment
I was impressed with Shafikov,he was quick and sharp and counters in combinations which were impressive,it seemed he wasnt even trying to block some of Nugaev's punches as much as if to say "you cant hurt me"
I never seen Shafikov's world title challenge against Vazquez last time out as it wasnt on TV here in the UK but i read it was a hug-fest so i didnt bother watching it later but i did see Shafikov defend his European title against Lee McAllister in Aberdeen a few years ago and was impressed

I guess we're gonna get Vazquez/Shafikov II now sometime in 2015. I hope it doesn't suck as bad as the first one.
