Who would you like to see Anthony Dirrell fight next?

Post by Kaaspeer »

Who would you like to see Anthony Dirrell fight next?

I would like to see him in a unification fight against Arthur Abraham. He would most likely win, but it would add to his resume and kinda force the other elite fighters in the division to take him on, as he has 2 belts.

Froch and Kessler will retire soon, Dirrell won't get to fight them, and Andre Dirrell is his brother, so he won't fight him neither. If he beats Abraham, though, then he will be an undefeated champion, most victories by way of KO, with two belts from victories against Abraham and Bika. In other words, he would be an attractive opponent for Andre Ward.

So, I could imagine him getting Abraham and then Ward shortly after. Somewhere down the road, possibly before Ward or Abraham, I could also imagine him fighting James DeGale. That would be an exciting fight.

Anthony is so average comparing to his brother, Ward, Froch and probably Kessler will beat him, he can fight against dudes like Abraham, Stieglitz, Rodriguez IMO.

Groves needs a few solid wins to re-establish himself after the two Froch losses. Until then, he is not the most attractive opponent to fight in a title match.

IMO, Groves and Bika should fight each other now, the winner will be re-established while the loser should just retire. I would also love to see Groves fight Robert Stieglitz. Those are the kind of solid wins that will get him back on track.

The winner of Groves vs Rebrasse becomes the mandatory for Dirrell's belt

Interesting. Could be interesting for Froch's legacy is Groves beats Dirrell...

Dirrell-Groves would be good. I like Groves chances too. The OP is on the right track as well. A unification bout with Abraham would be good for him. He could win another title, build his resume and experience, and sort of avenge what happened to his brother.

I've said in another thread that I think Dirrell would knock Groves out. I dont think he's any more talented than George but I think he has better punch resistance proven by slugging it out with Bika at times and Groves is weak in that department and Dirrell is very quick and does have some decent power there.

He needs to fight Abraham because it's the only fight that makes sense for him at this time.

Groves-Dirrell is a nice fight. Groves could possibly beat Anthony. Not beating Andre.

That's the most likely options.
he's not going to go balls out chasing Ward.
Froch would have no imterest in it

What about JCC jr, could that be made?

I don't consider Anthony a top 5 guy @ 168 so idk that I give too many f#cks who he fights next. He ain't ready for the top guys imho (& idk that Andre or Carl would even have a shred of interest in him anyway) & with all the awful things that have happened to him I kinda wanna see him get a few title defenses in & some nice paydays so he can set himself up post boxing. I guess the fight most interesting that is viable for him is probably J'Leon Love. As a Michigan guy I'd be in the extreme minority excited for that matchup.

Sauerland tweeted if Groves does well in his currently scheduled fight on Sep 20, they are targeting a fight with Dirrell next.

It is a realistic chance for JCCJ to get a belt in a new weight class, so he might take that fight.

Boxing fans are terrible at gauging when a fighter should retire.
