Why is Santa Cruz fighting a cab driver?
In the undercard of Floyd Santa Cruz will be fighting Manuel Roman. That is an awful choice. Why is this fight PPV? In addition, Angulo vs De La Rosa. These fights are not even ESPN material. Not sure why they are included in PPV event.

Sorry verballistic but Santa Cruz just came from an easy fight Mijares. He practically won every round. Mijares was supposed to be his easy fight. But I agree with you 100% that nobody could defend the mediocrity of the undercard.verballistic wrote:I thought the same thing, but Leo has had some tough fights, so I'm not surprised he has an occasional easy one mixed in. I see it basically as a stay-busy fight. Vasquez should have an easy night as well.Borinken25 wrote:In the undercard of Floyd Santa Cruz will be fighting Manuel Roman. That is an awful choice. But there's no way I will defend the overall mediocrity of the undercard...

...because GBP and Haymon can't get along. They are both trying to make the other look like a bad guy and as a result we are getting more and more crap fights. See this past weekend for example, or the upcoming Matthysse/Broner card.

That could be true but Santa Cruz rejected a fight vs Quigg. Why? And then turns around and pick a cab driver.Boxing Prospect wrote:...because GBP and Haymon can't get along. Did he really turn it down or was Hearn talking crap? Maybe he turned it down due to money or the fact he (LSC) wanted to be on a Mayo De Cinqo card, could also have been the squabbling that prevented it...lots of possibilities but I wouldn't trust Hearn as far as I could throw him, he keeps talking a good game then delivering little unless he can whack it on PPV.Borinken25 wrote:That could be true but Santa Cruz rejected a fight vs Quigg. Both saying "Hearn says" again I don't trust Hearn so I find it hard to take what he says at face value. He's also said that he was trying to make a Bantamweight unification between McDonnell and Tomoki Kameda though it was WELL KNOWN that KAmeda was going to have to fight a mandatory fight anyway.Borinken25 wrote:

I see what you are saying and I agree that is hard to take what any promoter says at face value. But, if it was a lie then GBP or even Santa Cruz himself could have come forward and say it is not true. I find difficult to believe that GBP would not say anything about it. Santa Cruz had way better options than that cab driver they picked. I just wonder why. He is coming of a very easy fight, why another one? Two easy fights in a row for a supposed elite fighter is just too much.Boxing Prospect wrote:Both saying "Hearn says" again I don't trust Hearn so I find it hard to take what he says at face value. Why is Santa Cruz elite? Does anyone believe him Rigo is a 50/50 fight?

Better things to get involved in than a "he said she said" spat...i.e. promoting actual fights that are happening rather than talking about things that were never on the tableBorinken25 wrote:I see what you are saying and I agree that is hard to take what any promoter says at face value. Re: Why is Santa Cruz fighting a cab driver?
BS "title defense." Mijares was his cupcake, a blown-up super flyweight. This guy is worse and should be a 10-round non-title opponent
Re: Why is Santa Cruz fighting a cab driver?
Rigo would likely take Cruz to school, but GB won't let that happen just yet. Cruz was saying he wanted to fight Rigo, until Rigo said yes lets get it on.world ranked wrote:Why is Santa Cruz elite? Does anyone believe him Rigo is a 50/50 fight?

Because he's scared to get clowned by Rigo

Beg to differ amigo. Santa Cruz clearly dominated Mijares, but Mijares has only one other loss in his last 16 fights & that was a disputed split decision to Victor Terrazas in their battle for the vacant WBC title that Leo later took from Terrazas. Having lost that controversial nod to Terrazas, Mijares was considered a very worthy challenger to Leo. Santa Cruz just made it look like a mismatch.[/quote]
Common verballistic lets be honest here. Did you seriously consider Mijares a very worthy challenger to Leo? I suppose anything can happen in boxing but it was clear that the most likely scenario was a clear and dominating win by the much naturally bigger Leo. It is a fact that Leo was the clear heavy favorite. Maybe for the occasional fan who don't truly follow boxing Mijares was worthy. To me he was not, in fact, that was one fight that was easy to predict the outcome. For the record, I find Terrazas quite average.
I think Santa Cruz is over-rated too. I see him quite similar to Rios. He is exciting to watch but I think he severely lacks defense. If I were him I stay far far away from Rigo. There are a tons of good fighters that deserve a title shot more than the cab driver he just picked. That to me it is inexcusable after coming from such a easy fight vs Mijares.

While I don't think that it is "inexcusable" for LSC to fight this dude, this is a fantastic post. Mijares was small & if not shot then at least in the process of firing, like. LSC is a huge super-bantam. Not a horrible fight but a one-sided one.Borinken25 wrote: Common verballistic lets be honest here. Did you seriously consider Mijares a very worthy challenger to Leo? Giacomino is right, this should be a non-title ten rounder. Fvck me JCC would've had about 40-odd world title fights if he'd been around today.

Big fights were happening not that long along though when Haymon was still involved. The likes of Garcia vs Matthysse didnt have to be made.kidbazooka1 wrote:Thanks to Al Haymon.

I tend to feel the crap fests are because GBP and Al Haymon aren't getting on. Then again I thing Haymon is effectively running a ponzi and that it's all going to come crumbling down.columbo wrote:Big fights were happening not that long along though when Haymon was still involved. I guess if Roy Jones could do it and everyone still praise him for it then so can Leo.
