When we talk about Sheffield producing quality fighters I assume we really mean Ingle's gym producing quality fighters? Its not really about Sheffield, Yorkshire or any town, county or city, its about the gym and those behind it. Fantastic track record.

Forgot about the Booths! Thought we were classing Graham as a product of Sheffield/Ingles??

The East Midlands as a whole isn't overly great for boxing which is a shame. Needs a top gym/team like Ingles/Gallagher/Sims to attract fighters even from outside the area. Rather than Wood and Froch for example having to train in Sheffield.

All 'boxing' roads in sheffield lead to Ingle. Even the fighters who don't appear to have a connection to Wincobank do...they just don't know it! Clinton woods had one fight for Brendan as a 16/17 yr old maybe then went into the wilderness before turnin pro with Dennis. this in its self isn't a strong connection however when Clinton began as an11 yr old thru to 16 he was TAUGHT to box at Hillsborough boys club by Ray Gillot a decent bantamweight who was Taught to box by Brendan alongside Mick mills n co. Obviously Dave Coldwell gleaned every bit of knowledge off Brendan before becoming succesful in his own right. Glyn Rhodes will openly admit that he wouldn't be where he is without Brendan's influence and guidance. Roger Sampson who trains Lewis Taylor and Jamie Sampson Had a pro fight for Ingles...Sheffield amateur and pro boxing owe Brendan an eternal debt for putting the city back on the map in the last 40 years

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Sheffield had had a British champ since the 40's before Brendan started working his magic.

Over a similar period, Cardiff/South Wales have had Robinson, Calzaghe, Rees, Enzo & Cleverly. Admittedly it's more of a region rather than a specific city, but probably covers roughly the same area as Sheffield.

Then again, you could argue that London is more of a region as well based on the size of it, and the amount of places that claim to be London boroughs that aren't actually in the main city.

In all honesty, Sheffield and Manchester seem to produce the best fighters pound-for-pound in terms of the size of the city, not London or Liverpool.

Liverpool isn't even close. London is the spiritual home of not just British boxing but boxing in general, and will always produce plenty of fighters through the sheer size of the place if nothing else.

Sheffield, mainly down to the Ingle's has done fantastically well in the recent era, Manchester too as you point out
Hopefully there are many more to come.
