What do you think of BKB? (no ring, no ropes etc.). Saw my first couple of BKB fights a few days ago & really don't know......

I like it. Boxing is boxing whereever it takes place. Can't imagine it'll catch on though cuz boxing fans are almost entirely composed of old bah humbug mfers who think change is evil despite boxings evolution from the bare knuckle fight til a guy can't go on days to what it is now.

To be frank, I think it's watered down shite.

I had the immense displeasure of witnessing the recent Gabriel Rosado VS Bryan Vera BKB match (in which Rosado was victorious by KO), and my impression is that it was akin to some form of human cockfighting, but needless to say whatever it was - most certainly not the sport of boxing that I have come accustomed to knowing. Less padding in the gloves making it dangerously unsafe to the boxers, no ropes with which to plan in fight tactics, and the ring appeared to be a circle with a diameter of no more than 10 feet. An absolute farce!

I agree with the gloves issue. Boxing doesn't need to be any more dangerous.

I watched some of the fights the other night including Rosado-Vera which was a good fight. The circle thing is gimmick like the octagon in MMA. Whoever came up with the idea is looking for a way to make a buck. From the BKB website their description: BKB—Big Knockout Boxing—is a new, intense, and hard-hitting combat sport that revives the knockout in boxing. Fights take place in the Pit—a small, circular altar of action that encourages big hits and knockouts galore. With no ropes or corners, the Pit forces offense and offers no relief from a fighter's brutal onslaught. Plus, with short rounds there's no time for hugging or dancing. This unique format was designed by a team of industry veterans to deliver maximum action, total aggressions and, of course, big knockouts.

It says the gloves are 8 or 10 ounces depending on the weight class, the same as boxing. The pit is 17 feet in diameter. It's a little strange seeing them fight in the pit but I would not quite call it human cockfighting. The 2 minute rounds had them fighting at a high pace. As for the fighters the website says: Only the fastest, strongest, most aggressive fighters are selected for BKB. These are born brawlers who are slugging their way to the top. Anything less wouldn't survive the Pit.

At the end of the day, it's a gimmick that won't last long, most likely it will have a shorter lifespan than MAA which gives wrestlers and grapplers a place to compete after their amateur careers are over in wrestling.

Can someone explain what stops them from tripping on the edge of the ring.

Definitely like the idea of smaller gloves. Punching is there for hurting.

But yea you're right this won't last long. Boxing fans are mostly older & older people mostly hate change so it won't fly on that reason alone.

That's exactly what promoters' concern is. They are trying to attract younger audience, as current older fans will eventually be extinguished.

Well gl to them attracting new fans on ppv. It's possible cuz the ufc did it, but in this case it's offering lil that's new. It's more like boxing 2.0 than a new sport & people already aren't watching boxing on free tv.

the thing is, if this is sanctioned by state boxing commissions, why aren't the results
included in boxrec, same as all those old time fights with totally different rules than today?
i don't get why boxrec doesn't include some professionally licensed boxing (like that wsb)
in pro records when it is licensed sanctioned promoted professional boxing.

I like the concept and love the roster--- however, they initially were a "bare knuckle" group until they decided to stick with "big knockout boxing" as they werent really fighting bare knuckle--- for true BKB I would say the best in the world is the BBAD group out of the UK whose champion is amateur/semi-pro boxer James McCrory, because they do monthly or bi-monthly shows.

Cuz people who cum dust deal with this sorta sh!t usually I imagine. And to them Boxing takes place in a square ring with x, y & z & blah blah blah & so on & so forth involved. Personally I'm in agreement with the WSB stuff being amateur (amateur boxing used to be w/o headgear plus paying them is just a extension of the "stipend" bs thats been paying the best guys, in boxing & other sports, for decades anyway so amateur is kinda a bs term imho), but this BKB fighting looks like pro fighting to me cuz its pro guys fighting its just minus a ring.
