My thoughts are that GGG-Cotto won't happen even if the former beats Rubio.

Agree. Spring seems like Saul vs Miguel to me.

Even if Saul is unavailable, Cotto will not fight GGG at 160. They may start pushing for 154.5 catch weight or something like that.

There isn't a whole lot going on @ 160 so idk that thats necessarily true, but Miguel is one of the biggest draws in the game so he can dictate terms & as a smaller weight guy I can't fault him for going to a lower weight if he wants & if GGG agrees than it is what it is. And I mean Miguel fought Antonio twice & everyone acts like Antonio was the mfing boogieman so idk why he'd be scarred or w/e youre suggesting to fight GGG @ 160.

To me Cotto fighting GGG for a belt at 154.5 or 155 is an effing joke. If you want to be the 160lb champ, fight there, or give it up. The problem with Cotto is, there are probably 3 or 4 guys at 154 that he can't beat, so where does he go? It means very little to beat a guy that is weight drained...except to the very uneducated fans. Even a weight drained GGG would take Cotto apart I think, but still doubt if that fight ever happens. Cotto is near retirement, imo.

No point in accusing Cotto of demanding that Golovkin come down to 154.5 when he hasn't done it yet and probably isn't going to. I wouldn't begrudge him if he requested a catchweight of some kind, though, due to the size disparity. Like with Cotto - Martinez, it is logical that they meet at a weight closer to 160 than to 154. Whenever you have a larger fighter and a smaller fighter, both of whom drain close to the max that they can, one pound of coming down in weight is generally equal to a couple of pounds of coming up in weight. The math would be different if either or both fighters weren't drainers. Fighters who aren't already draining much, like Mayweather or Pacquiao, will be punished less than a drainer for coming down in weight and punished more than a drainer for going up in weight.

Due to the fact that Golovkin still isn't a big money fighter, I don't see it being a logical fight for Cotto. I agree that Cotto vs Alvarez is a fairly logical fight for both fighters involved -- it is probably the most money Cotto could get among his available options, and Cotto is probably the best scalp available for Alvarez to collect right now. Alvarez has already officially beat Trout, Lara, and Angulo. If not Cotto, Alvarez's other best options are Andrade, Molina, Martirosyan, and Kirkland; each of whom are easily inferior scalps.

Alvarez isn't going anywhere near Andrade. But if he did they would just rob Andrade anyway.

The best scalp for Canelo would be GGG, and hopefully he will go for it after retiring Cotto. When he realizes that that was a poor decision, a ref will be reminding him numbers from 1 to 10 :)

The difference with Andrade is that he won't run like Lara did. I thought both Lara and Trout beat Canelo in close decisions, but we all know how that goes. Another fighter Cotto won't go anywhere near is Lara, and Freddie Roach basically already said that. Lara would spank Cotto much worse than Trout did. He also said if Cotto fights GGG, it would have to be much closer to 154 than 160.

As somebody already mentioned, there may be quite a few people at 154 who can beat Cotto. He should get his paycheck for the Canelo fight and retire afterwards.

Cotto will probably call their bluff and just fight Canelo next May. Who knows, he may lose the belt to Canelo anyway before he gets stripped. I can't foresee the two of them fighting each other this winter. I think they are going to try to compete with Floyd for Cinco de Mayo next year, which should be interesting.

Oh no a abc ordered something. This is an asses in seats business & with that logic Saul is the go to guy & I bet when this becomes more clear they will lighten up cuz their sanctioning fee will be bigger too & Saul vs Miguel will be one of the biggest fights of 2015.

He will definitely fight Canelo. The question is if WBC takes it decision back and authorizes Cotto vs Canelo at something like 155/156 to be a MW title fight or they will strip Cotto.

I suspect they will rescind or at least modify their decision to allow that fight. Probably say the winner has until September or later fall to fight GGG. $$$

Cotto is champion at 160,therefore he should defend at 160. That, eventually, means GGG. If he wont fight him, take his belt off him. I,personally, don't think he wants it,and can't blame him. He's coming to the end of his career, and after a good career you can't blame him for wanting to make a few quid before he finishes, and a fight with GGG will probably be his last. Either way,i think GGG will wrap up 160. The question is where does he go from there? Up or down? Mayweather or Ward?

Cotto wont fight GGG. He doesn't want to finish a good career with a beating.

I am hoping a few of the better guys at 154 go up to 160 to make it more interesting there, since 154 seems to have more talent. Guys like Lara, Canelo, Andrade, and even one of the Charlo brothers. Andrade and Canelo probably have the hardest time making 154 currently. Not that any of them will beat GGG for sure, but make some interesting fights.

No way will GGG get Floyd at this point in Floyd's career, and don't think GGG is all that anxious to move up just yet. Ward has not offered to meet GGG anywhere in-between, so not counting on that fight happening soon.

Now Sulaiman is saying that Cotto (or Canelo) will only have to fight GGG/Rubio winner after their fight in May:

Not sure what what was a point of the June deadline.

Is this the very same Rubio who got smashed by Kelly Pavlik, I think after he lost to Hopkins? If I remember rightly Pavlik was criticized for taking this fight in, what, 2008? And this was a guy coming off a bad loss. This is a fight that shouldn't be happening.

I'm sorry I'm as excited by GGG as the next man but this is a terrible, meaningless fight. I think Pavlik would have smashed all of Golovkin's opponents too. Golovkin is going to be really tested when he gets put in with somebody who can take his punches and fight back. I'm bored of these fights.

Somebody at SMW. Let's just move up now. The big fight at MW was with Sergio, who has since been shown to be shot and a shell, or with Jnr who can't make weight and will never fight at MW again. Quillen won't fight him so there's nobody left. I don't care about the winner of Canelo-Cotto: they're midgets. Do you give either a chance against GGG? Don't tell me you think either is going to win? It's boxing so anything can happen, but I'll re-emphasize the question: Do YOU think either is going to win?

Even to see GGG against somebody like Bika, who has a good chin, is MUCH more interesting to me than Rubio. Bika will take Golovkin's shots and punch back. People have Golovkin as this monster who can beat up 175 champs in sparring so bad they're scared of him with the headguards and the big gloves. So move up.

GGG is not moving up until he collects MW belts or receives a very good money offer (currently possible from Chavez, Froch or Kessler only).

Speaking about Rubio, he does have a very good chin and good power. He was competitive against JCCJ losing a close decision and demolished Lemieux. Rubio's main drawback seems to be that he is moving back when is attacked causing more punishment than necessary and limiting counter possibilities.
