80% of boxing media score for Brook over Porter

Post by fightscorecollector »

The high number surprised me although as the you will see on the article the ave score was close. I scored it 114-114.

The 117-111 score i feel is far too wide.

so how did you all score the fight?

here is the article with all the scores...... http://www.boxingnewsonline.net/nine-me ... ell-brook/

both khan and watt on the british feed had porter winning.
there is no reason for khan to be biased against brook as he could cash in on a british brook fight.
the average score by the count on that link is 115-113, and fsc had it a draw. close fight.
the 117-111 official card was way off.
i had porter up by 2-3 rounds

Brook won by three rounds easily. Coming forward throwing windmills but landing practically nothing legal is not scoring. I'm not at all surprised 8/10 people scored it for Brook.

I had around the same score.. Haven't watched the fight again and actually scored it, but when I initially watched it I was keeping score in my head and felt Brook edged it by a round or 2. It was a close fight and wouldn't have been too upset if either guy won and sure wouldn't have been screaming robbery regardless. But I feel Brook put in the cleaner work, was more effective and deserved the nod more so than Porter.

I can't see how anyone would have given that fight to Porter.

If that EXACT SAME fight happens on September 13, and Floyd is Brook and Maidana is Porter, people would say Floyd lost. Boxing fans.

It was an ugly fight. I think that Brook got away with too much holding, but since a point wasn't taken, he effectively neutralized Porter and made him look like an amateur (whatever that means) at times.

I think I scored the fight 7-5 Brook or even, but after the fight, I felt like Brook won ... but it sure was ugly.

No, just no. Maidana-Floyd looked like Porter-Brook and just about everyone who knows a thing about boxing says Floyd won by AT LEAST 2 rounds.

Yep.
By the fifth rd, it was becoming clear Porter had no clue how to get to Brook except by bull rushing and doing a Michael Phelps breastroke impersonation.

Brook clearly took over and was hurting Porter a few times.
Had he practiced his uppercut, he could have stopped him.

I thought Maidana did a little bit better than Porter did against Brook when he fought Floyd earlier this year. And Floyd still won. So...

I disagree with that actually.. Porter was probably more effective than Madaina in the later stages of their fights. Madaina had like 3 or 4 rounds where he was some what effective and really made a case for clear cut rounds that he won. Where as I think there were a lot more toss rounds in Porter vs. Brook throughout the entire fight.. I still think Madainas success against Floyd has been blown a bit out of proportion, but then again we aren't used to seeing guys have much success against Floyd at all, so people really hold on to those first few rounds where Madaina was rough, tough and dirty.

This is where we disagree. The only rounds that Brook gave up were the ones he basically took off. The only success I thought Porter had were when he hit the body every once and again. Other than that, his aggression was smothered and rendered ineffective. One round determined the Maidana bout in my scoring, where as I had Kell winning handily.

I agree 117-111 sounds wide but a lot of the rounds were scrappy and close. Judges score each round and immediately hand that card over at the end of that round. They may have given Brook the nod in a round by the tightest of margins but then when all rounds are added up it sounds like a wider win when many rounds were won by very slight margins.
